I'm ntl rather than TW but I suspect it's much the same. On the STB remote there should be a button to enter an onscreen settings option. In there htere should be a video settings option. Look for anything that says screen ratio or similar.

For Telewest... on the set top box remote

Press Interactive button

Press settings and services

Press display and audio

Set TV display and format
