Horizontal lines on cable channel through VCR/DVDR

My parents have just got a new TV and a combi VCR/DVDR. At the same time they have upgraded to NTL digital.
Having tuned in the channels to the VCR/DVDR the cable channel has horizontal lines all across the screen when watched or recorded through the VCR/DVDR. At the back of the VCR/DVDR the line in has the input from both NTL and the rooftop aerial. If I remove the coaxial from the rooftop aerial the cable picture goes perfect but obviously the aerial becomes redundant.
When the VCR/DVDR is off, all pictures are fine.
Any ideas what causes the interference and are there anyways around it?

Hope this makes sense?

Looks like there is some sort of interference. It's possible that the NTL STB and the VCR/DVD are transmitting over the coaxial cable using a very similar frequency. I don't think you can change the STB channel RF frequency, but your manual for the VCR/DVD might show you how you can change it on that.

What model stb have you got, as a simple 3 key press will enable you to change to frequency of the out put channel of the stb.

If you want to change the STB's RF channel (e.g. if the current one conflicts with other channels tuned in on your TV):

Pace 1000 and 2000 - Press "TV", "OK" and "Right" at the same time - this will show the current RF channel no. on the display. Use "CH+" & "CH-" to change it to what you want, then "OK" to confirm the new channel.

Pace Di4000-N and Di4000-T - Press and hold select, then add left arrow, then add services. Use CH + or CH - to alter the channel shown on the LED display. You can also switch the Remodulator off by going below channel 21. Then repeat the button sequence to store the setting.

Samsung box - Press "TV", "OK" and "Right" at the same time - this will show the current RF channel no. on the display. Use the up and down arrow keys to change it to what you want, then press "OK", "Right" and "TV"

How is the ntl box connected to the VCR/DVDR combo?

Sounds suspiciously like there's a bad connection between aerial and the combo box, or that there's a defective RF decoder in the combo unit.

If the bars in question are moving that indicates an issue with AC voltage interfering with the picture.

I'll probably go for option 2 there. The combo is badly shielded and there's AC frequencies munting the combo or the TV and they're getting in via the aerial and RF decoder.

your better off altering the RF output of the vcr/dvdr as you own that.if you alter the output of the digi box and mess something up then ntl will blame you and say you shouldnt of messed with their equipment
