Question Using an ntl box in another house?

There was a thread a while back about someone's relative bringing a skycard over to the house for xmas thnking it would work for movies and sport (or similar) which did not in fact work. what I was wondering , out of pure curiosity, was would it be possible for me (who is subscribed to the full ntl sports, film4, movies etc) to physically take the box to another house supplied by ntl that does not have these subscriptions and wire it up and, say, watch a football match. Will it work? Am I allowed to do it?

Re: Using an ntl box in another house?

I believe the boxes are registered to work at the given subscribers address only. That is the same with the NTL modems too.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Using an ntl box in another house?

Technically, it would only work if the other house was on the same subnet.

Legally it is not allowed by the T&Cs.

when you say "technically" do you mean that it would not work or it might not work? I had a feeling it was not allowed under ther T&Cs

Re: Using an ntl box in another house?

The box in your house is set up for your house. The signal levels are adjusted to take into account the number of services,Distance from the cab ect.If you take the box to a house (and NTL can tell which node a box is connected to as well) & the signal is too low or too high, you could create more problems for yourself.

Nope, don't do it, don't even think of doing it. End of.

Thumbs up Re: Using an ntl box in another house?

as long as you dont plan on taking the box a million miles away then ,yes, itd work! its very unlikely you`d experience problems when watching (like you said) a match, however, you are more likely(coz of signal issues) to have problems using on demand or interactive should you try to.

no doubt somebody is gonna come along now and tell you its against the "rules " etc so probably not worth the bother. But in answer to the oringinal question theoretically /technically YES Itll work!!

The answer is actually it may work.

However, there is nothing new to be said- the question has been answered, and it is against the T & Cs to do what you are suggested so no more discussion is needed.
