Sky movies 9

I have just been watching Sky Movies 9 and halfway through my film the screen went black. Then a Sky Movies logo appeared and I was asked for my pin code. Due to a number of unwanted PPV charges in the past I requested that the Pin be set to a random figure, so unfortunately I don't know what pin to use. Is this going to be the norm from now on? I need to know so I know wether to phone NTL to get a new pin.

I remember reading about sky movies 10 and the fact that sky movies 9 would start doing something like this, is what just happened in anyway related to that?

Thanks in advance.

-=EDIT=-
The channel came back shortly before the end of the film I was watching. The adverts and the next film are all fine. Is this still worth phoning NTL about in the morning?

Re: Sky movies 9

No point phoning to report a fault, it was a mistake - but this will be normal soon.

The background is that a while ago, OFCOM decided it was now OK to show 15 and 18 rated movies before the watershed (9pm) as long as they're PIN protected. Sky have now started doing just this on Sky Movies 9 and 10 - however only gave ntl one month's notice, so an application has had to be implemented to allow us to continue carrying Sky Movies 9. The application will only ask for your PIN between 5pm and 9pm (the channel does not broadcast before 5pm any more). At other times, it will automatically change you to the normal stream.

If I were you, I'd ring Customer Services to get your PIN reset to a number you can remember - and be sure not to tell it to anyone!

Sky Movies 10 is on both Sky Digital and Telewest, but not NTL it would seem.

Re: Sky movies 9

Am I missing something here? Why has SKY MOVIES 9 been removed from Channel 59? Can someone please explain? By the way I'm on the crappy CR1 ex Videotron network. Thanks.

so this means that I can't watch this channel?

I can't, but I have not reboot the system yet.

but this is bad for NTL customers who were not told the fact that this channel is changing, and that we would need a pin.

is this pin the same pin that we always use, and if it is a sky channel wanting the pin without the usual NTL ads on it, then would my machine accept it?

Unfortunately, the CR1 software cannot support the PIN protection now required for Sky Movies 9, and so it has had to be removed to comply with OFCOM regulations. It will return when your area is upgraded to CR3, but I cannot say when that might be.

If you are in a non-CR1 area (that is, anywhere except certain parts of London), you should be able to receive the channel when you enter your PIN.

This is the same PIN that you would use for purchasing Front Row movies, entering TV Email, etc.

Re: Sky movies 9

My TV guide this week has Sky Movies 9 & 10 with the letters 'HD' after the number, does this stand for Hi Definition?

(according to my guide SM10 is a sky only channel)

Re: Sky movies 9

I phoned through and got my PIN a moment ago, and guess what? every time I want to watch this channel I have to go through the same pin keying in routine, and more.. when I want to quit the channel and move to some other I have to press TV or BACK button first. My response to this is "FOR GOD F-ING SAKE!!!!!"

Sky channels 311 & 312 are now both Hi Definition. I believe they transmit the same content as Sky Movies 9 & 10, but in Hi Def.

Blame OFCOM neither ntl or sky are to blame, the software requires you to do precisely what you have written.

Re: Sky movies 9

I agree , OFCOM is a pain in the butt, and I found out NTL has a blank screen cos they decided not to put any films on channel 59 until 5pm!!! Why??? NTL and SKY is not to be blamed, yes , my opinion is this: nobody is forcing them to show 15-18 rated movies before 9pm, they don't need to do this if they chose to.

I quite like the choice of being able to watch a 15-18 movie before 9pm and why shouldn't an adult
