query: Explorer 4000DVD coxial cable Problems

Hello friends,

Sorry, I didn't know how to create a new post. Please guide me.

I have a telewest digital set top box (Scientific: explorer 4000DVB).
The issue is I bought a new LCD TV and need to extend the white cable (coaxial cable) so that I can take the set top box near to the TV.

I need 2 metres of the cable containing male and female connections. This will help me to unscrew the white cable from the box and then connect to the female of one end of the extension cable and the other end of the male will go into the box. But will this work?? Is it okay???

Can the somebody kindly guide me.

Waiting for your help.

Telra

Re: Query: Explorer 4000DVD coaxial cable Problems

I've split this from the thread in which you posted.

You need to be very careful if extending the cable on the Telewest side of the Set Top Box. Strictly speaking that is part of Telewest's network and isn't yours to play with. If done incorrectly you can affect your own or your neighbour's services by introducing interference, altering signal strengths. etc.

The coaxial cable used by the cable cos is not the standard stuff you will find in the DIY shops. Similarly the connections used tend to be a more robuist crimp fitting that tne DIY shop screw on terminals.

Best advice would be to ask TW to extend the cable, but that will incur a fee to you.
