linking TV, VCR and DVD

I have linked my VCR to the STB etc and by means of a double Scart socket to the TV. When I plug in the DVD to the other socket of the double Scart the sound practically disappears. This occurs both when playing a video or when accessing stations through the VCR. I should appreciate advice.

Re: linking TV, VCR and DVD

Use only single OFC scart leads.
Connect tv out on STB to scart in on tv
Connect 2nd scart on STB to VCR av1, setting VCR to AV1 to record off STB
See if this helps

Thanks for prompt reply. The setup you suggest works fine but it is when I add the DVD that the sound virtually goes off. I can think of no way of connecting the DVD other than through a dual connector.

If your TV has a second scart socket (AV-2) connect your DVD player to that. When you turn the DVD player on it should automatically connect. It worked OK on my setup - until I installed a DVD recorder, but that's another story. Hope this helps.

Re: linking TV, VCR and DVD

Unfortunately my TV has only a single scart, and I plug a lead with two sockets into it. When I plug my VCR into one of the sockets everything works fine but when I put the DVD scart into the second socket I lose sound on anything played throught the VCR, either tape or programme.

Re: linking TV, VCR and DVD

The single scart connection on your TV will only accept input from one source at a time. Have you tried connecting your DVD with the VCR disconnected? If you have both units connected then I would think that one of them must be switched off to prevent interference to the other's signal. Sorry I can't think of any other suggestions.

Re: linking TV, VCR and DVD

Many thanks for the helpful suggestions. I think I shall have to settle for plugging in either the VCR or the DVD but not both together.
