Angry Whats going on

How long have we got to live with the little " press red box" that appears every 10 minutes while watching tv.
no matter what channel im watching this box appears and is spoiling my tv enjoyment.
If you press it you get nothing so what is the point of this.

Re: Whats going on

it's something we all have to live with, pressing the back button on your NTL remote will remove it, but it comes back if you access programme info, or after adverts breaks.

Sky digiboxes have a menu option to make the red button warning automatically disappear after 30 seconds. Not much use to you unfortunately.

You shouldn't get it on every channel - only a limited number of channels have so-called "eTV" applications attached. The "Press Red" box should only appear on the BBC channels - and should only appear for around 30 seconds at the beginning/end of a programme and after you tune to the channel. You can remove it sooner by pressing the 'Back' button on your remote.

You'll also see a red button prompt on Channel 4 (although not after December 31st, as the eTV application is being removed from Channel 4 on all platforms on that date), Channel ntl, ntl On Demand (if available in your area), attheraces, and sometimes ITV.

Believe it or not, I'd rather have NTL, but I'm not in a cabled area any more! Once you consider all the pros and cons side by side, NTL does more of what I want than Sky.

Re: Whats going on

so what you are saying is that you are all prepared to have this annoying feature and pay for it.

now if it was a a light that kept coming on on your car you would soon take it back, even more so when it does nothing.

I cant believe ntl use this press the red button feature when nothing happens, im sure thay must get hundreds of complaints about it. so what are they going to do about it.
if it means voting with my cancelling of service then so be it. i spend £70.00 ish per month with them thats over 800 per year how about keeping customers happy
get rid of the feature or introduce a way to turn it off

Well something should happen. You could report that to ntl.

By the way, if you are thinking of changing provider, you may find it's worse elsewhere. On my Freeview box there doesn't appear to be anyway to get rid of the prompt at all, apart from turning subtitles on. It doesn't even vanish after a time.

Alternatively just hit "Live Pause" for a couple of seconds then "Play" and it doesn't appear at all!

Still no use to NTL subscribers, though

Why should he?

I get fed up with "DOG"s (Digital On-screen Graphics) cluttering up the screen and so do a lot of other people.

I *know* what channel I'm watching, I don't need some damn logo in the corner *telling* me!

If there's interactive content, I have the option to look at it, but I should also have the option to ignore it (and mostly it's a waste of time and space anyway!)

I'm not going to "live with it" just because "everyone else" (presumably meaning you) does.

Re: Whats going on

I did wonder about the red button thing myself, but now don't "see" it. Never had this prob with SKY.

On a side note i would just like to say the remote for the Samsung SMT-2100C is the worst shape for a remote i have ever used

It rolls around until it finds *it's own* comfortable position - and that is usually buttons down
