TV Analog to Digital

Hi,

We've had NTL analog cable TV for years and today we are finally going into the 21st century and have upgraded to digital.

What can I expect from this? What type / make of STB will I get? Will this be a PVR?

Cheers

Lee

Re: TV Analog to Digital

Be warned, make sure you ask for a by-pass (I think that's what it is called) to be fitted on the rear of the STB (so you can still get terrestrial through an aerial, not a brilliant signal though).

Other than that, more channels, the box is bigger, good picture quality and on screen menus (may or not work reliably). Have your box positioned so you can turn it off and on at the mains fairly easily as you may have to re-boot the box if the channel or guide gets stuck. You will no longer pick up stray channels on your TV (when we were on analogue we could tune the TV to get a couple of extra cable channels).

Good luck and have fun.

Re: TV Analog to Digital

Cool - thanks - what about connecting to my DVR - will the STB have a 2nd SCART socket so the DVR can signal channel changes for recording, or is that done through the RF?

Re: TV Analog to Digital

See this thread here for more info on that.

You can program in the STB to change digi channels for recording purposes.

Nope! I'm afraid it's just a bog standard digi box like you get from Sky.1 tv &1 vcr scart,1 rf out & ,if it's a phase 2,3 or Samsung,no phone out jacks.
If it's a Phase 2 ,3 or Samsung, you need a bypass fitted to get off airs (BBC1 to C5 on the TV.)
And it's not a PVR box.Personally, having worked for NTL & now Sky,If it was me,I'd have gone for Sky+.
