Thumbs down Annoying red-dot

How do you stop the annoying "press red" from appearing?

Only had the new software 10 minutes and had enough of that already!!

With the previous software, there was a menu option to stop it.

Re: Annoying red-dot

If you press the TV button half way down (quickly and softly, not pushing it all the way down), the red thing should disappear and the now & next box won't come up. It should stay off for a while. Sometimes it comes back, I think if you change channels, but its better than nothing.

Re: Annoying red-dot

My Sky Pace box's remote has a 'Back Up' button which removes the red dot. There is a button on the NTL remote, which removes the mini-guide from the screen, and that also has the same function. I don't remember what it's called as I've been away from NTL for a while now!

You don't have to press it lightly, it is an 'official' function of the button I'm thinking of.

The Press Red graphic appears every time the TV station sends a signal to make it appear. This may be at the start of each programme that has interactive content, or it might be after each commercial break. For example, watch Spooks tonight - the Press Red should appear a couple of minutes from the end, as Spooks has interactive stuff this series. Well, it does on $ky, anyway!

The upshot of it is, you can make the graphic go away whenever you want, but you can't stop it coming back so far as I'm aware, and the frequency of its reappearance is determined by the broadcaster.

Thanks, but I use Tivo (to record everything - don't watch "live" tv) so would not be around to press any button. Hence why this is a problem to me.

Err ... yes, there are. But this is a cable customer support request posted in a cable customer support forum.

I really don't think your comment was constructive or necessary.

Sorry, thought if I pointed out some terrible tragedies it might take his/her mind of the 'annoying' red button, or at least put some perspective on the whole situation.

This is normally more of a problem on some channels than others, I recall that the red button was highly prevelant on C4 during Big Brother, but the code to show the press red thingy is sent less often these days.
EDIT - Which also IIR makes this a channel thing not an NTL thing, the Channel can send a code to make it appear and dissapear, so it is bad broadcast management by the channel, not necessarily an NTL issue.
(Though OB seems to be taking it a bit personally ).

Not really, just trying to cheer the OP up a little bit. Worse things at sea and all that...

He knows that - he was asking if there is some master setting in the STB that can prevent the red dot ever appearing in the first place.

Like there was until today when the "new" software was installed on my box.

Sure its not the end of world but it was the last thing NTL had in its favour that was influencing my decision whether to quit NTL and go SKY.

It may not be a big deal to some but It HAS cost NTL at least one customer if, as it seems, it cannot be switched off.

Before you jump ship - I use $ky but I don't know of any setting to permanently hide the red dot.
