Pairing the smartcard with a new box
Here is the story. I used to be with NTL and had a Samsung SMT-2001 box. When I moved out, they never picked up the box so I left it at my parents... Now I've moved to my new place and have resumed my service... when the engineer came to install everything I didn't mention the Samsung box because it was still at my parents and I was eager to get my services back.
The annoying thing is that they've installed one of those old PACE boxes... which I hate... they're so slow and keep on crashing...
Anyways, I got the Samsung box back from my parents and tried to use it with the new smartcard and it says "smartcard not paired A009"
Is there anyway I can use my samsung box with my new smartcard??

Re: Pairing the smartcard with a new box
basiclly the box needs to be set up with the smart card its a call to CS
thing to remember its not your box it belongs to NTL best just to give it back and be honest as it could be a bit of a dodgy one leagaly
IMHO there isnt any difference between the boxes (i have had both) interactive doesnt work on ether both crash and although it is slightly faster it has the same software i.e. a bit pants til the upgrade

Re: Pairing the smartcard with a new box
If I ask very nicely, do you think they would pick up the PACE and fix the samsumg instead?

no because the box is supposed to be in your parents house
they charge £150 for a missing box

Re: Pairing the smartcard with a new box
no, the box is supposed to be at my old location... I just left it at my parents over the summer... (because they didn't pick it up when I told them I was moving out... and I didn't want to just leave it there)

same thing mate the box isnt supposed to be where you are now
phone them and explain that you didnt want to leave it in an empty property
and is there any way it can be connected at your present address
after all it was your account and you have moved
you never know and cant lose by trying

This isn't my experience. The Samsung is a LOT better and has never crashed yet.

You are under the T & C's as responsible for all NTL stuff. You may be able to get NTL to swap the STB's however you will be charged for the truck out of around £50 to £100.
As said before, the cards are paired to the box it came with.

Re: Pairing the smartcard with a new box
Don't think Spike is saying you'll be charged for NTL to pick the box up, though technically you are responsible for returning it. He's suggesting NTL will charge if they agree to swap the boxes over.

Re: Pairing the smartcard with a new box
Thanks Marky & JohnH,The fact is that you want to swap your NEW pace box for your OLD samsung box, that you left at your moms, then you will be charged for a call out. It's the same as if you wanted your TV retuned. If i called Sky out to move my box from the front bedroom to the back,i would have to pay £65.00.AND under the T & C's,it's not NTL's job to collect equipment!I suggest you look at the post on this site about the new T & C's!
