Is it VOD or STB problem?

Got the VOD this morning (I presume that's what channels 106/107 are, calls them ntl: on demand) - but whenever I press the red button it comes up with the orange "Please Wait..." box in the corner, then comes up with a blue screen with white "ntl: on demand" writing in the middle, then after a few seconds cuts back to the TV with the EPG at the bottom and you're back to where you started.

What area do you live in?

It is likely that your box has had a software update, but the VOD content is not yet available in your area.

I live in Frimley, Surrey which I believe comes under the Guildford headend?

Try rebooting the STB, the STB may not have fully connected to the VOD/ETV servers. Also try the On Demand button to see if you get the VOD menu up. If you don't then a reboot will be required as well.

I used the VOD this morning without any issues. I am just down the road near Guildford.

Re: Is it VOD or STB problem?

Have rebooted, exactly the same problem. When I press the On Demand button it comes up with an error message that says:

"We can't connect to your services at the moment. Please make a note of the error number below (...) MO41"

Then when I close that error message another one pops up saying:

"This service is temporarily unavailable (...) IS002"

Interactive/Red Button services have never really "worked" on our NTL box, but every time we phone customer support they tell us to check all the cables are plugged in properly (I guarantee they are) and that to call out an engineer will mean a £75 charge, which we can't really afford.

Re: Is it VOD or STB problem?

A very small percentage of boxes don't always pickup the the new VPG, a reboot should fix as long as there are no return path issues.

IS002 indicates your account has not been correctly provisioned for Interactive Services (which VOD is linked to) at ntl. This should be reported to faults who should pass it to 2nd Line faults. A technician should not be required for this fault.

Check the front of your STB. You can check the return path status by looking at the LED. If it flashes you have no return path but if it's solid the return path is available.

Re: Is it VOD or STB problem?

There's no LED's on the front? Just the channel number...

Sorry. Must be a feature of the newer type boxes.

Re: Is it VOD or STB problem?

It's nothing to do with the age of the box. The return path light (known as MCNS or Multimedia Cable Network Services) is only present on Samsung boxes and Pace boxes in Bromley areas. Pace boxes in Langley areas do not have this LED as the return path works differently.

However, as the jackel said, it sounds like your interactive services aren't enabled properly. Give Faults a ring (0800 052 2000, Option 3) and tell them you're getting the IS002 error message. Once it's sorted, you should be able to enjoy VoD!
