Unlike the V+, TiVo does support 1080p. But as others have pointed out, VM don't currently broadcast anything in 1080p.

Re: TiVo installed yesterday- not a good start
Will VM consider broadcasting 1080p in the future Spiderplant..? There are a few on demand film services popping up now offering the full pixel count.

Yes, it wouldn't be in the menus if it wasn't being considered as a future possibility.

Re: TiVo installed yesterday- not a good start
1080i and 1080p have the same number of pixels. It is the manner of transmission that is different. 1080i is interlaced and has, in effect. half the vertical resolution. Oh and there was no 1080i until ...Sony introduced it as a cheap HD production format. It was not ratified by broadcasters and the EBU was dead against it but market forces won and the consumer lost. Interesting that is it now biting Sony on the bum.

That is something I have not picked up on. How do you set it to do that. As far as I recall it has never happen automatically to me. I had/have to search if I get a clash or as up to now I had two working boxes use Video sender as a last resort

I was going to reply that it does it automatically, but now that I think about it, you need to have "Overlap Protection" switched off or it will do it's best to get the first-available showing even if it clashes

Re: TiVo installed yesterday- not a good start
I've just been fiddling with the red button as I needed it, and the advice over pressing it twice just toggles between that and the TV station. All that provides is the weird video clips the BBC have just begun to provide (here anyway), I Player and that's it. No sign or hint of teletext.
But far worse is the BBC interactive system, reduced to one channel but still available before Tivo appears not to be available either, and it's world snooker season and I personally have the evening session on as the BBC prefer not to show it live. Some is on Eurosport but not as reliable. Have we lost this as well for the privilege of paying £5 extra a month on the bill or just another temporary glitch (if only).

Re: TiVo installed yesterday- not a good start
I have always said that "buying in " technology is not a great idea. Look at the inland revenue & its system ( off the shelf US tax programme) no end of problems.
So then we have TiVo. What on earth was the reason for buying into it rather than updating software on the kit you have. Along these lines perhaps?
Let me guess
Hi guys we can have great a great deal on this "new " box . It works well in the States.
It can record 3 programmes at the same time.As long as you don`t want to watch another on live tv. but you can watch something you have recorded,Ok that can be lived with.
It CANNOT support the most up to date way one of the main TV channels stream shows but who will care, when they see all the great apps it will offer just like a tablet. So you can use it like a tablet , phone calls live messenger etc.No - but you can play Hang man who would want anything else! Whats more you wont need to buy a TV guide as it goes two weeks ahead- great it adapts as programmes change?
No but who will care when you can search for what else that guy from rainbow is in!
Hasn`t it been used in the UK before,Yes and SKY the most successful provider dropped it. Well that a real good reason to get it !
Think of all the great positive write ups it will get & we can always say that it is coming soon Or blame other people because of our short slightness .
And so it came to Virgin.

I understand that & if it was the product used to launch cable in the UK. Then it was OK
That still leaves the question WHY did Virgin take it over upgrading the software on the V+ .
What it offers as extras for the most part could have been upgraded. What it does not offer, were not though of as necessary and now attempts are being made, for the most part unsuccessfully to play catch up.With cry's of its not our fault . OF CAUSE IT IS.
Why should anyone spend time & money making things work for Virgin, Or are they footing the bill? If you choose to get rid of a service that works for a service that does not, you cannot blame any one else.
Still you can play always play hang man
Sorry just noticed when you had TiVo. Did you move out of a Virgin area ?

V+ has very limited capabilites thats why they cant keep developing int. I left VM to go to Sky as worked out cheaper for me

Not sure what was really needed to be added to "sell" the V+ instead of TiVo.
I guess that the TiVo was not a pull for you. Does this not rather prove my point. Its not a good investment- you left over price.
I only stay with it because of price.
Take a TiVo and keep your V+ save £10.50 per month.Virgin pay me to have one ! "Whata mistaka to maka"

Tivo's 3 recordable tuners, bigger HD and Whishlists, make the V+ look well past it's sell by date. And that's just a few of the Tivo's many features that are lacking on V+.

Re: TiVo installed yesterday- not a good start
The bigger hard drive was the only reason I got a TiVo, wouldn't be without it now. I think you're being unkind when it comes to things like apps and streaming services. The way TiVo delivers I player, for example, means access to extra content over I player on the v+. What's not to like about that?

Wish list - no interest
Bigger hard drive - If the V+ is 20% full, we have been away !!
Apps - Hang Man, come on !!
I Player - can not recall the last time I used it . NOW the RED button is another story, O `Yes a poor version on TiVo
So for me get the red button working properly & I will move the TiVo to the main TV. At the moment its on our third TV , Freeview( Red Button) is more used by me than TiVo , The BOSS takes the main one.
