IF we want a Tivo box, we have to pay £49.95 activation fee.
I have just been on the VM website, and it clearly states that there are TWO Tivo boxes, One you pay for installation fee, and one you don't, CS have told my wife that we will have to pay an activation fee WHY, we only the cheaper box 250 hours.
Any answers ?

Just approach in a different way like I did.
Tell them that you are trying to decide if you would be better off changing the lot to Sky, or to VM. Or that you are possibly even considering going to BT. Then watch the price plummet
I saved an absolute fortune by changing the lot to VM. And they didn't charge me for the box, or for activation, and I got the price for the install down to £20.
Play them off against each other, it's the best way!!

Care to elaborate Tim as you've quoted £80 and up to £200 savings on this forum on separate occasions but up to now you seem a bit reluctant to state your actual package and savings??

I've never quoted £200 savings. I said that I received a £205 credit, because they messed up the changes to my account to start with.
As I said previously, it's a big account with 3 phone lines, 100mb BB, a Tivo, and a HD box. There are all different packages on the phone lines, that have very high useage. And there are various loyalty discounts.

Re: why did u choose Virgin Media?
Having moved from my old home with a £500 bill from BT, had to break an ISDN contract when moved, decided never to go back to BT ever again, so utilised my cable enabled home and never looked back. Sky has always seemed sinister and evil like Apple (another company I have never owned a product from).

Re: why did u choose Virgin Media?
Was on Freeview before moving to Virgin V+ and the reason behind the move was pigeons. They were camping on the TV Aerial and pooing on the car below, which belonged to my landlord. So I was given an ultimatum - get rid of the Aerial or else. So I went with Virgin for TV.
I've always been with Virgin Cable Broadband because the fastest ADSL line I can get in my area is 2MB, whereas I'm getting close to 30MB with Virgin.
Now, having discovered the previous residents had Sky, I've moved to Freesat for TV but will remain with Virgin for broadband, until (or if?) BT Infinity comes, and is competitive with what I have now.

Re: why did u choose Virgin Media?
I was originally with Sky from the early 1990's and Bt for phone and dial up internet. I swapped from Sky and Bt as there was a substantial saving. I have to say I have never looked back as far as Broadband is concerned. However, the TV side of things is not so clear cut as VM seem to struggle to obtain HD channels.

It was a £205 credit for what they had messed up, and £22 as compensation.
I should know what I got

Re: why did u choose Virgin Media?
Always had cable for phone and BB (dating back from the Nynex days) .. Had cable tv, then gave sky a go when HD first came out (so old Thompson box). Sky wouldn`t have it, when the poor caps, started to blow, so I told them to shove it and came back to cable tv too.
The grass is always greener, as they say. But in all reality, i`m thinking of dumping the tv package, and going the netflix/freeview route.

Re: why did u choose Virgin Media?
Got sick of Sky offering me special offers and then finding my bill sky high (no pun intended)
I stay with Virgin simply due to the superior Broadband.
Sky have the better TV package / HD. I hope Tivo will develop quickly as I am a bit underwhelmed currently.
Can't see me leaving Virgin until I get to a point where I am priced out.

Re: why did u choose Virgin Media?
I signed up to VM as there prices were similar to that of Sky and their BB offered vastly superior speeds , everything was great for the first 6-9 months then contention kicked in on both BB and OD rendering HD OD unusable at 7-10pm the time we actually wanted to sit down and watch something , shame really as the service was faultless for the first 6 months or so. Would I consider returning , yes but the TV offering would have to vastly improve as its currently more expensive for me

Re: why did u choose Virgin Media?
Was with Sky in our old house in Wales as cable wasn't available. When we moved south, we had a BT line installed at an initial charge of £25 a month but then when I checked the bill a few months into the contract, they had increased it to £56 a month without a word so we told them to shove it and signed up with NTL. Haven't looked back since.
