TiVo V+ v Tivo

Hi thinking about getting the Tivo box before the price hike! Just wondered what the verdict was of those who already have it. Love the V+ find the HDD a bit small but apart from that no problems.
What are the advantages? Is it worth the xtra cost? I currently have my V+ wired to a TV in my kitchen via an RF modulator connected to the scart is this possible with the Tivo also?

I'll let other customers give you an opinion of TiVo, but yes you can use the scart the same as you have now to your kitchen.

It's a bit like comparing a Ford Focus with a Ferrari. The Focus is comfortable, good to drive and will get you where you want to go......but you really want to have the Ferrari!!!

The V+ plus was very good for it's day but with the introduction of the TiVO it'll soon be obsolete imho.

Along with a petrol tanker & a mechanic in tow . Like a Ferrari perhaps if it had no wheels and a blown head gasket

would swap mine for a 2nd V+ anytime.

Tomorrow it will be sorted ! Been told that since day one still waiting.

Any way got mine for less than I paid for just the V+ so I can live (if not love) with it.

I'm sticking with V+ for now:

1) Additional cost
2) Express Series link isn't customisable. I like 5 minutes before and 10 minutes after.
3) Can't permanently reserve a tuner for live TV
4) No Red Button

Points 2 and 3 are the main problems for me. If those things are sorted then I'll consider migrating. I know Red Button will get done at some point.

Point 2 = You can customise a series link, you have to create it then go into it in my series links and you can change it then

Point 3 - on the V+ that is the default setting with 1 tuner allocated to TV permanently and so 2 other tuners for recordings. The OP was referring to what they would want on Tivo and is a feature I would actually like myself. Not a show stopper but certainly a preference as I personally like a tuner to browse through any channels I wish to look at while leaving 2 other tuners to do planned recordings and for Tivo to reschedule recordings if there is a clash rather than use of the 3rd tuner today.

Point 2 - saw a comment form a VM representative on the VM Tivo Support forum around a month ago saying they are planning to introduce default settings you can customise. Everybody wants to decide what default means for them.

Point 4 - definitely coming and when finally here will be far better than V+ but right now can understand why some people will not change until features like these are in place. Get on with it VM!

Tivo Has one big advantage over v+ and that is a bigger hd.So more hd content can be recorded. Also it is nice to find programs through actor searches and the like. Is it worth the extra £3 a month ?,well if you have some spare cash then yes but only just!

Apps are thin on the ground also and are not the great.Except Spotify,which you have to pay for.

The small HDD on the V+ forces us to only record stuff we actually want to watch, it's regularly around half full. We only have a SDTV, obviously it will be inadequate when they upgrade to a HDTV and start recording HD.

Anything I put under the TV has to be compatible with the parents so it has to be supersimple to use. Setting a series link and having to modify the padding afterwards would be too complicated. The same goes for using 3 tuners at once, I can imagine my mother getting ready to watch something and then a strange message appears on the screen telling her to cancel one of her recordings, it would annoy her.

Neither imho. The VHD is the best box VM do. Credit where credit's due, it really is quite nice, certainly quicker and quieter than V+/TiVo. If you get the scart out from it linked up to decent hard drive recorder you've got the recording capability as well.

Its a great box but its not a PVR. Trying to use the external Hard Drive Recorder limits you to only watching and recording the same channel, doesn't help if two programmes clash

Exactly and this is its (Tivo) best selling point. We watch hardly anything live now, especially as you can watch an hours programme in 45 minutes (by skipping the adds).

It would be quieter as it doesn't have a HDD.

The TiVo is whisper quiet anyway IMO
