There seems to be too much jumping to the defence of VM, by some VM employees, rather than actually being constructive by helping the customer who is actually paying for a service they don't get.
So lets concentrate on constructive posts, that may actually help VM customers who are experiencing problems.

You do remember that Virgin media are actually making me redundant so I am not jumping to their defence just pointing out who is the real expert with regards our set top boxes, if you ever have any questions he is your guy.

The V+ and V-HD boxes have the format check.

It would, but the problem is going to go away shortly anyway.

Well there was no need to be so agressive in your post towards him then.
Like I said, lets be more constructive.

So wouldn't the quick fix be to just upgrade those with problems to the TIVO straight away?

If you read the post Peter was replying to, then you'll understand his reply. We are not here to be barked at either you know.

Yes I know that. Although you do have to make some allowance for the fact that he was very angry about the way he had been treated in the VM forum. So it would have been a good idea to try and calm him down rather than wind him up even more.
It is far easier to lose customers than to win them over. And for each one you lose, there could be another 20 who he tells about his bad experience.

I think you are mistaking who I replied to which was not the OP for this particular post, the poster I was answering could not understand why Spiderplant answered as he and most people on here do not realise that his job is set top boxes and no one knows more about them than him.
As for upgrading right away they have to test or get many complaints.

If anyone wasn't receiving broadband or any TV channels, then they would be on the phone on a daily basis to ask what was going on. So it sounds like they banned him because he was publicly complaining, which doesn't put them in a good light.
If he gets really upset at not getting the service he is paying for, and goes to BBC Watchdog, then VM will really have something to worry about, because they will lose potential sales with that sort of bad publicity.

Agreed.

"Infraction" is one of my favourite words. Did you know that it is derived from Latin and has been used since about 1615?

I have yet to upgrade to one.

I accept that may be the case. But it doesn't help if you have one of those models does it?

Indeed.

In my opinion it's easier for VM to do a fix rather than the many TV MFGs. Plus the box connects to the TV so should work without firmware updates with most people wouldn't know how to upgrade, myself included.

Got to agree most people would have no idea what you were talking about if you asked them about firmware, just look how many millions the goverment have had to spend trying to explain the digital switchover and still their are people who dont get it.
There are plenty of people out there who think they are watching HD content just because their TV has an HD ready sticker on it.
So expecting non tech savvy people to keep their TVs firmware up to date is just a pipe dream at this moment in time.

Re: banned from virgin media support forum for complaining about 3dondemand fault
I wouldn't have a clue how to go about doing it, either. My TV is only connected to my Tivo, and doesn't have any usb ports-how would I go about getting the latest firmware onto it?

Check on the manufacturer's support website. Though personally I'd leave well alone if I didn't have a problem.

Re: banned from virgin media support forum for complaining about 3dondemand fault
it's not that simple VM doing a software update, there's a process which takes time and money. it is a lot quicker to do a firmware upgrade on your TV if you know how
