Tivo patent question (wishlists)

Tivo has a feature where the user adds a show/actor/director etc to a list and then Tivo records future shows that relate to the above. Is this a Tivo patent in the UK?

The reason I ask is because there is a PVR called 3view which allows a user to add the name of a show to a list and it will then record all future series of that show.

Re: Tivo patent question (wishlists)

Windows Media Center has done this for many years so no, TiVo won't have a patent on this.

Re: Tivo patent question (wishlists)

I don't believe software patents are valid in Europe anyway. Happy to be proven wrong though, as anyone should be when speaking about patents!

The name WishList is a trademark for TiVo.

Re: Tivo patent question (wishlists)

Oh ok. I'm not sure if the 3view actually uses the term Wishlist for its function.

That doesn't necessarily mean TiVo don't have a patent. TiVo probably have several patents in this area, but it could only be decided in court whether any particular product infringes.

In case anyone has trouble sleeping...
