Earphone Solution?

Hi Guys,

First off, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section - Just hoped I picked the correct one.

I have a Tivo box in the bedroom and on all of my previous TV's have had the standard earphone socket meaning I don't keep people awake at night while watching the telly.

Recently bought a new TV and stupidly didn't check to see if it had an earphone socket.

Is there anyway I can get around this either via the TV or via the Tivo box or am I screwed?

Cheers!
David

Re: Earphone Solution?

Something like this

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scart-Adapto...6877748&sr=8-1

You might though still need to plug that into an amp or similar

Re: Earphone Solution?

That looks perfect! Thank you

Time to ask the dumb questions, I currently watch via HDMI so if I plug that into the scart socket of the Tivo box will the visual side of things still go through HDMI and then simply the Audio via Scart then through the earphones?

Also, would it matter which Scart socket I plugged it into?

As always, many thanks!

Re: Earphone Solution?

No idea, but that device doesn't allow you to plug in headphones directly, you will need an amp to bring the scart audio signal upto headphone levels.. (an old music centre with line in should do.)

Re: Earphone Solution?

There might be some usable output on the TV. What make & model is it?

I have driven headphones direct from the SCART. It is a bit quieter than I'd like, but still usable.

Re: Earphone Solution?

It's a German brand that you will prob never heard of before - It seems to have everything else just minus a Headphone socket!

I got it from TJ Hughes before they went bust, I just looked at the price and grabbed it.. Stupid me.

I think if I remember off the top of my head has the analogue audio outputs (or possibly they might be only digital)

Edit: Just checked and the TV just has Digital Audio Outputs.

Re: Earphone Solution?

OK Best of luck with this one... I know it can't be well known as the Tivo remote won't even control it but made by LEVEL.

Re: Earphone Solution?

If it's one of these, "PC audio OUT" sounds promising. Can't find the manual though.

Re: Earphone Solution?

It's the same brand but not the same model - Mine is only a 32 Inch.

I know for sure it does have the VGA connection as i've connected my laptop to it before.. Not sure about the audio side of things, never needed that.

Re: Earphone Solution?

Couldn't you use a converter to convert the optical signal from the back of the TiVo into something a bit more headphone friendly?

Re: Earphone Solution?

As far as I know you can't get a optical to 3.5mm jack as like the video connections that is digital vs. analog.

Does your TV have Audio Out, the ones with RCA outs?

Then you should be able to control the volume with the TV remote, though you would have to change the 'speaker selection' on the TV every time you use the headphones.

Re: Earphone Solution?

Just taken a quick peek behind the TV and it has the following:

PC Audio In
S-Video
Pb
Pr
Y
Av
AV Audio L/R
YPBR Audio L/R

Any of these any good - Hope it helps a bit more.

Thank's for all your responses so far!

Re: Earphone Solution?

AV Audio should be the right one, providing you have a 'speaker select' function in the audio menus.
