Re: Current TV on VM TV that is the question

It now looks likely that the Sky EPG slot and possibly the spectrum too has been bought from the owners of Current TV by C4 for their placeholder timeshift channel that starts on satellite at the end of this month.

I wonder if VM will carry this prior to the confirmed launch of the proper channel in place of Current TV?

Can't they sell it to Channel 5 so that they can launch 5USA HD, since it is near the EPG slots for 5USA and 5USA+1

Oh no! I missed it and there's no chance of a repeat! Maybe it'll turn up on YouTube, The Current TV website or there'll be a link from Al Gore's own Twitter page. I must investigate at some point.

Perhaps, rather foolishly, I never made Current TV or Al Gore aware of the existence of this thread/poll. They did thank me when I posted on their website that a group of us will miss the channel though.

I wonder if we'd still have it if there was some real competition for satellite TV services in the UK. I know that Current TV could go Free-to-Air and be seen on Sky and FreeSat platforms but I imagine the carriage cost is prohibitive for them.

Unlike most channel closures, this one will be missed

Re: Current TV on VM TV that is the question

I saw the closing speech, I think its on the American version of the website. Not too controversial though. Big up to British documentary makers, blamed satellite AND cable operators for the closure, said the channel had become "inconvenient". Finished by urging contributors to keep on pushing the boundaries of something. I'm not his biggest fan, but he is a smart political operator, and he played this very safe.

You'd look like that too if you had a massive Dalek stood behind you!

Don't know why he said cable companies. I took it to mean either American cable companies, or he didn't want to say only satellite operators which, in the UK, only means Sky and would have been a clear and direct attack.

Why would he be against US Cable companies, they are keeping Current TV, also Sky is not the only satellite operator in the UK
