My personal opinion is Sony will keep movies4men (+1) and will add some of its own content to boost the channel. They have been showing movies on Sony TV such as Spiderman 3, Superbad, Secret Window which would fit nicely on M4M. The other channels will become AXN (+1)
|
They should rename:
Movies4Men
Movies4Men +1
Movies4Men 2
Movies4Men 2 +1
Men&Movies
To:
Sony Movies
Sony Movies +1
Sony Movies 2
Sony Movies 2 +1
AXN
When they do that can we have them on Virgin TV!

Hopefully the content on those channels improves because at the moment they are dire.

I do think it would be embarrassing for virgin. Content they would spinster cannot be seen in hd on there platform, it would be usual bad negations if it don't appear
|
What do you mean it would be their usual bad negotiations if it doesn't appear? The sales and marketing department at Virgin who agreed this sponsorship deal with ITV has nothing to do with the channel procurement team within Virgin. This sponsorship deal, and the lack of ITV HD channels on Virgin Media have nothing in common.
Maybe I'm made of tougher stuff, but people seem to be getting embarrassed a whole lot easier these days than they used to. I just don't understand how Virgin customers not being able to watch a programme in HD is a genuine reason for a multi million pound company to get embarrassed. A company not being able to deliver the broadband speeds it advertises, that's embarrassing. For me that's the type of BS that is worthy of being calledw embarrassing.
|
Well they are paying for sponsorship of two major shows for itv 2 but I feel they would want shows they sponser shows to be aired to there own customers in the best picture quality

Virgin Media chief Neil Berkett in BBC Trust attack
Quote:
Within a year, Virgin Media customers will be able to access its TiVO on-demand service from mobiles and tablets, but
Mr Berkett said it will not have the rights to distribute Sky content on anything other than a traditional television without
paying "unpalatable" additional fees.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1
I can see how Sky would want to use its own channels and its bouquet of channels from other broadcasters to promote the BSkyB platform but with competition from so many other areas such as Freeview, Freesat, cable, mobile and the ever expanding internet sources, they really need to separate the broadcasting and programme making side of the business from the delivery side and rely more on licensing to other platforms for income.
I don't see protectionism working for Sky in the long term and running the two businesses as independent entities might generate new ideas on how to use the platform for purposes other than just the delivery of their package of radio and TV channels.
I'm sure there is money to be made from more Sky content "Coming soon to ..." a variety of platforms including Virgin TV, mobile and internet services and I agree with Neil Berkett that the availability of programming from the BBC and other broadcasters needs to be improved upon although how that is achieved is a matter for some debate.
Since divesting itself of its own channels (with the exception of its 50% stake in the UKTV channels), Virgin Media is no longer a threat to other programme makers or broadcasters and should be seen as a potential customer rather than a competitor by all concerned.

I think Berkett made some excellent points and the title is a bit hyperbolic he didn't so much as attack the BBC Trust more like he pointed out the obvious.

I agree with you, but I thought that VM had sold their 50% stake too?

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1
Any further news regarding the potential launch of Premier Sports?
I can't find any further updates, news or speculation via their Facebook page or Twitter. Also checked a couple of other forums too but all quiet.

Ah, yes, the completion of the transaction was contingent on regulatory approvals in Ireland and Jersey, which was received on 3 October 2011, so I guess it has all gone through and VM are now completely out of the broadcast and programme production side of the business.
Even more reason to treat them as a paying customer with paying customers of their own and not as a competitor.

Virgin media sold their stake in UK TV to Scripps Network interactive. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/04a841ee-c...#axzz1kCuiKcbH

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1
Would be good if all channels were available to both platforms (Sky and VM) and Sky were split in two, content/programme maker and platform.
Then the real competition would be customer service and price. This would be excellent for the customer.
