Tivo offers a lot more than that but I still think £5 'seems' a lot more than £3, especialy as, until you've had Tivo, people aren't aware of how good it is.
For people who already have one Tivo, I think going from £3 to £5 will especially make people think twice about upgrading their second box (V+) to Tivo, now that, since last October time, it is per box, rather than per account

In other words they are profiteering off the the successful launch of TiVo, good grief they must be as bad as Sky.

In my view, it's not the net features that make it good; as has been said, Br players, TVs etc can do all that. It's the things like wishlists and three recordable tuners, multiroom streaming (when it arrives), ongoing series inks etc, that make Tivo great. Some of these can be incorporated in the next Sky box, but Tivo has them now and some of the functionality can't be used by anyone else apart from Tivo due to patents.

But that's my impression of it - a box with a bigger harddrive and a few internet applications such as youtube.
I won't pay £3 per month for it, neither now or at any time in the future and if VM want me to have Tivo then don't charge me extra for it.

Nothing wrong with making a profit, but if you pitch a price rise wrongly in tone and increase the price hgher than people are prepaired to pay, that price rise that was meant to give you more profit may backfire.

Not so sure about that. Perhaps Sky couldn't have thumbs signs on their remotes (I don't know) but they would just have something else.
But I agree about the £5 charge. A step too far, but we'll see what their figures are for this year, as and when they are released.
When did it become normal to be charged £5 a month for the "luxury" to record a tv programme?

Most likely a middle finger as a subtle message to all their customers

Well PB we shall see if it backfires as l am sure Virgin will have had much thought and consideration before putting the price of the TiVo box up and only time will tell if this pays off or not.

I would think that willhappen. It certainly did for the V+. That said, the V+ was "all their own work" whilst the Tivo isn't. So perhaps not

Neither of which have anything to do with watching TV though

Arte they really. Can you please link to where they say that in a Press Release or some other official way. Thanks.

I'll take your word on that but that's always been my impression that all Tivo is, over and above V+, is basically youtube on your television and a bigger harddrive with things like catch-up TV presented in a different way.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1
In fairness to Rillington, Carl, Virgin have labelled Tivo "the best way to watch TV, ever". That's on all their ads and a lot of their documentation. I don't think it's much of a jump to get to what Rillington says.
