By my reading, to get it in SD on VM you need to pay for a Sky Sports subscription (£22.50 pm), but on Sky to get it in HD, you just have to pay for the HD pack (£10 pm), so no requirement to subscrive to the movies.
Whilst I'd agree that a shiny new channel dedicated to F1 is nice, whilst not in their portfolio at the time, this is the kind of sport Ofcom would have viewed as wrong not being on SS1 or SS2.
As ever though, no different to stuff that would ordinarily be on Sky One ending up on Sky Atlantic - I read somewhere that new Alan Partridge would be on Sky Atlantic (yes, very Atlantic )

Let's go with your theory that Sky are withholding their portfolio of HD channels as their asking too much , so why have the channels below never arrived
Disney Cinemagic HD Launched December 2008
Nat Geo Wild HD Launched April 2009
ESPN America HD launched June 2010
Universal HD launched October 2010
ITV 2,3,4 HD Launched October , November 2010

You have to remember that the channels providers pay BSKYB to go onto their platform so its is much easier to get onto Skys platform where with Virgin its they who have to pay the channel providers to secure carriage on its platform and one suspects that most of these channel providers are asking for astronomical fees or to put it another way they are being greedy so and so's.

At one stage weren't the ITV HD (except 1) channels exclusive to SKY, when did that stop to be true?

Because VM don't have enough money to buy them, because people like you are giving their money to Sky

Not according to this

ITV's HD channels will become available to Sky+ HD subscribers in autumn, starting with ITV2 in October. ITV was in talks with other providers, Crozier said, including Virgin Media, but the deal was exclusive to Sky among satellite platforms.

So let me get this right; any company wanting to broadcast a HD channel in the UK has the choice of 2 options in order to get their content on a TV platform.
Option 1) Pay out money.
Option 2) Receive money.
Now you're telling me the majority of companies would rather see money going out of the bank than income going in?!
Maybe it's just me but that seems illogical.

Can`t agree with that. Virgin do the best they can with the money they have. The real problem is sky`s greed in demanding too much money for their channels. Some of the channels not on virgin aren`t owned by sky it`s true but as it`s been pointed out in the case of I.T.V 2,3,4HD they were contracted to sky on a exclusive deal. The other channels may well be asking virgin too much money,we don`t really know.

ITV 2,3,4 HD are not contracted to Sky, its between ITV and Virginmedia to reach a deal. Nothing to do with Sky at all.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1
For a coming soon to VM thread, there appear to be a lot of Sky Tv customers posting about Sky Is there nothing on your Sky boxes to watch

John.

Mmmmmm 7000 hours of on demand on Virgin compared to wait for it 500 hours on Sky.
