Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1

This is what will happen?

ITV1.

Virgin Media...interrupting other ads

The media company will first interrupt Yeo Valley’s TV ad with an image of an online buffering wheel, familiar to computer users.

Yeo Valley’s ad resumes and freezes again before asking viwers why they put up with buffering online when they wouldn’t with TV. A Citroen ad is given similar treatment.

The Virgin Media activity is part of the current doubling broadband speed campaign, created by DDB UK, and featuring Usain Bolt and Richard Branson.

Fifty6, the joint venture between Manning Gottlieb OMD and Goodstuff that launched last year to service the Virgin Media business, has planned and delivered the media activity.

Andrew Stephens, the joint managing director of Fifty6, said: "We’ve worked across brands and agencies to make this happen and are delighted to have unveiled the campaign during the Brit Awards, one of the year’s TV highlights."

Jeff Dodds, the executive director of brand and marketing communications at Virgin Media, said: "The unexpected interruption to primetime brings home the message that viewers shouldn’t settle for buffering on TV or online."

The Brit Awards airs on ITV1 at 8pm.

One mans experience does not necessarily mean that other people have the same experience.

Virgin have a bloody cheek.

"Yeo Valley’s ad resumes and freezes again before asking viwers why they put up with buffering online when they wouldn’t with TV"

Try using TV choice and catch up TV between 11:30pm to 2:00am. Okay so it's not buffering, but it either doesn't always work or takes ages to start. Then the fun begins. The stop button doesn't work. You fast forward past adverts and get stuck on fast forward for the next 30 seconds. Oh and if your really lucky your box can't handle it and reboots itself. Virgin's TV service at times is totally unreliable. I'd rather my TV buffered for a few seconds!

I'm still waiting for their ad to air! Did I blink and miss it or is it 'coming soon'

Yep, so I seen :s

---------- Post added at 21:22 ---------- Previous post was at 21:09 ----------

I was very unimpressed with that advert and think that, instead of paying extortionate fees to the ad company who made it and also the advertising fee given to ITV to show it, Virgin should have used that money to invest in new channels

Except, as has been said before many times, there is completely seperate budget for marketing as there is for channel acquisition

Most other companies operate in the same way - it's not a case if you don't advertise you have money for something else. If you don't advertise, you don't get new customers, which means you don't have extra money to do other stuff

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1

The problem with different departments having different budgets is that there is a tendency to forget that ultimately it all comes out of the same pot.

It may all come from an overall company budget, but that doesn't mean that making cheap adverts = more channels. For a start I would expect the costs for the adverts tonight were pretty small compared to the cost of channel agreements

Try using VM Broadband between 17:00 and Midnight less than half the speed I pay for every day

No I accept that. It's your suggestion that spending money out of the advertising budget has no effect whatsoever on the amount of money available to other departments I disagreed with.

For what it's worth I'm on TV xl. When I signed up it was to a package which advertised over 165 channels. That same package now advertises over 175 channels so semantics over advertising budgets aside, it simply isn't true that we are seeing fewer channels on Virgin, and those that think they're getting less for more are forgetting the increases we've also had in things like on demand content etc.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1

Busy night for Virgin last night.

I got up this morning to:

A) Diva TV has been removed from Channel 164.
B) Two unkown channels maybe testing as my Total Channel has gone up by one.
