Technika tv and virgin 3d

Hi All,

I have brought one of the Tecknika 42-8533D 3D tv's from tesco and have connected it to my v+ box through the HDMI cable that virgin media supplied.

Ever time I try going to Virgins 3d taster and freebies it just says my tv is not supported.

I have got the 3d set to auto on the tv and nothing happens and when I force it into side by side mode the picture seems to curl over on itself
Virgin have not got any idea why, does anyone have any suggestiosn?

The TV is not currently compatible. We are working with the manufacturer to change this. Fault ref is 1816452

It's the internal Virgin Media fault ticket reference. Engineers are working on a fix.

Re: Technika tv and virgin 3d

ok just need to be patient, thanks for the help, you answered my question much quicker than the 6 calls I have had with Virgin.

Out of interest do you know what the fault is?

Re: Technika tv and virgin 3d

Is there a list of TV's currently not compatible?

Just a general compatibility problem. I'll have a look at the ticket when next in work.

Not 100% sure... I know there was a problem with some Samsungs, but a software patch on the tv fixed that.

I can answer that. Basically the TV is telling the V+ it doesn't support the required 3D format (even though it does).

This is only TV model I've seen do this. This user had a similar symptom, but that was caused by the HDMI being passed through an amp that really doesn't support 3D.

This is the Samsung problem DF refers to, but it gives a flickery picture rather than refusing to play 3D. The solution is in post 5.

Re: Technika tv and virgin 3d

Really comprehensive answer so thanks. I have been toying with the idea of surprising the family with a new telly at Christmas, hence my interest.

Re: Technika tv and virgin 3d

Update for the OP. We are working on an update for January release to fix this. the problem lies with the tv not recognising the 1080i signal from VOD.

This fix will be tested then released in Jan if all goes well.

I don't think so, but we haven't been able to confirm that yet.

Re: Technika tv and virgin 3d

Thanx for the reply spiderplant.
was thinking of buying one of these TV's but too big a chance to take on it not working properly and I could have a riot on my hands from the kiddies on Christmas morning if something was to go wrong with such a major buy. Thanx again.

Re: Technika tv and virgin 3d

Having seen this 3D bundle on the Tesco website a few weeks ago,I could not resist this when I saw that £100 was knocked off over Christmas. There have been some negative comments about the TV but I decided to 'go for it' and I am now glad I did since I recieved it 2 days ago.

Set up was a doddle, a comprehensive manual is included along with the longest remote control I have ever seen but there was no HDMI lead. There was no need for me to set up the Freeview channels as we are on Virgin Media. I'd read on some forums that there were compatability issues with this tv and some Virgin boxes but my fears were unfounded as the set picked up my Tivo box with a video setting at 1080i. There are a generous 4 HDMI ports on the tv.

Both HD and SD look better than on my previous Evesham tv. I suspect why some people don't like the look of it in store is because the default settings have not been saved, but if you go into the advanced settings, you can activate the HDMI true black settings and the Film Mode to see fast motion scenes more clearly. Picture settings are Cinema,Game,Dynamic and Natural.

By pressing the 3D button on the remote,it will switch to 3D. We watched ot air balloons on Discover 3D followed by ESPN 3D and I was amazed at the quality of it. The only dissapointment for me was the sound even though I activated bass boost in the sound settings. It sounded hollow but there is the option to attach a sub woofer among the connections at the back.

Now for the 3D Blu Ray player. The remote is very light and flimsy and you have to press very hard to operate the buttons. My Ocean Wonderland 3D disc had arrived the same day so I was able to test it on this. All I can say is WOW!, It is breathtaking and my family are all amazed.

Finally, I have to say that this Tesco deal has excedded all of my expectations. It is a fine entry level into the world of 3D and I would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

By the way,I have just noticed on the Tesco website that it has now returned to it's original price of £499.99 so I am even more pleased that I took the plunge now.
