v Box
I have been a Virgin Media Customer for about 4 years and have their XL TV Package in 2 locations - my house and my son's flat for which we pay the subscription. I also have Broadband and Telephone service from Virgin Media Business as I need this for my business. So all in all not bad revenue for Virgin Media!
My set top box was recently replaced due to a fault and to my astonishment this has been replaced by the old style V Box and not with the V+ Box which I believe is now standard for all new subscribers! I am informed that to upgrade to the V+ Box will cost me £20 or £49.95 if I want to have it installed by an engineer!! This for a service which is freely available to all new subscribers!
Anyone else experienced this problem and did they manage to get Virgin Media to relent? I want the V+ box to be able to record programmes and no I am not interested in the extra monthly subscription for TIVO!

Re: v Box
Sorry I am bit confused was your old box a standard definition set top box without recording capabilities?
If the answer is yes you normally get a box of the same specification as standard.

Re: v Box
New customers aren't even told about the existence of the V+ box so whatever you've heard is incorrect.

V+ is not installed as "standard", I'm not sure why you are "astonished"? , all boxes are swapped FREE like-for-like.

The £20 upgrade is for the V-HD box. It is an HD box, but it can't record. See http://shop.virginmedia.com/existing...de-to-vhd.html
The V+ is not offered to new subscribers at all now, as it's been replaced by TiVo.

Re: v Box
Thanks for the replies to my post. All is now clear!! Apparently, new subscribers get a V HD Box as standard which has no recording facility. However, the V+ box is still available for £20.00 with no additional monthly fee for XL subscribers and this is what I have ordered from Virgin Media who are obviously trying to promote the TIVO solution! So an alternative to TIVO is still available for those who do not require the additional features of TIVO.

Really ? I thought they stopped selling them
Are you sure it is V+ box ? Is it actually a V-HD box ?
I would think the V+ box would cost more than £20 if you can still buy them.

Re: v Box
If the original poster is willing to speak to retentions or CEO's office there is a good chance of a free V+ HD box or possibly TiVo. Depends on a lot of factors though, so isn't a given, but if you're a loyal high-paying customer you have some leverage.
