Even if you left the box off during the update period i suspect when you plugged it back in TiVo would automatically update,i may be wrong but even that mght not work.

No and thats the point you cannot stop the updates unless you turn the box off and leave it off. If you turn it back on then you WILL get the update.

Well, without the iPad app the box is almost as useful when off as on I can't believe VM are being so stupid.

I know, I didn't really quite mean that, however I did make the point in another message that having been a S1 tivo user and always fanatically supportive of it, the only thing that gives me any cause to recommend the Virgin Tivo to others is the iPad app. I think that VM have made an atrocious pigs ear of what used to be great technology. The iPad app brings it back to acceptable performance.

I did that compound reply above by accident. I've always wondered how to do this when I see others do it. Can someone please explain what I just did

It's automatic if you post under your existing post within a short timescale

THen how come 12 years on from the original Tivo, with hardware speed improvements measured in orders of magnitude is the thing even slower.

Whilst I obviously don't fully agree with this; Having reverted back to using the remote for a short while last night I'd forgotten how much of a chore the menus can be to navigate.
The TiVo iPad app undoubtedly makes the experience considerably faster and far less frustrating.

Re: Virgin Media TiVo iPad app
Virgin CS don't appear to know anything about the upgrade - the lady I spoke to checked with the TiVo team and they said they didn't know of it either. And she didn't know about the iPad app.
Presumably, that means not many of us have called to complain yet. Might be worth doing...

It's messaged internally, so they have no excuse for not knowing. Ask them to check the intranet (Boiler Room) for the TiVo Update information.

Re: Virgin Media TiVo iPad app
Thanks for that, Digital Fanatic. Just spoke to a guy in the tivo team who knows all about it.
He said that there have been lots of complaints about this.
On the plus side, he was keen to reassure me that this was likely to be a temporary problem and that that the functionality was likely to be returned very soon. He said the update was aimed at some bug fixes and that the loss of functionality had been debated and he was sure it would be addressed.
Nothing concrete, but sounds like VM are listening to their customers after all.

Out of interest, what did s1 have that the vm doesn't?
