Re: Virgin Media TiVo iPad app
I want the official app, as this python workaround is no good as I am living at my parents due to breaking my foot and ankle in a motorcycle accident.
Is it coming any time soon???

Er, its not the Python work around that is " no good"... it's your living arrangements.
The Python workaround is fantastic - thanks everyone involved.

Re: Virgin Media TiVo iPad app
I don't really see how he is a troll? He (and many other people) want to download an app and its works, not be having have another device and program running 24/7 to do so.
Not taking anything away from the person who has wrote the script, its very impressive, I'm simply criticizing VM that people have to do this 6 months after an app, that was for all intensive purposes already made, was announced.
Now it'll take another 6 months for the Android version, by which time Sky will have released another boat load of great mobile apps.

Not trolling - its just the tone of your post implied that you thought the work around was " no good", just because it didn't work for you.
To respond without using "hilarious" and every so slightly clichéd imagery, you said "this python workaround is no good", which is very different to "this python workaround is no good for me".
People have put a lot of effort into getting this app to work and I think you should maybe put a bit more syntax so that you don't appear so dismissive of people's hard work, whatever your intentions.

Re: Virgin Media TiVo iPad app
The workaround is fantastic.
Took me a while to get the Python script working on my NAS. Since figuring that out, it's worked flawlessly.
Before I'd sorted that out, I just ran BonjourVM.exe (from an earlier post) on the PC when I was home - and sn00ps has even done a Mac version (although that didn't work on mine running Leopard).
In fairness to Virgin, it's only the latest version of the US app that works well with the VM tivo - the earlier version caused frequent crashes. This version only came out in December AFAIR. They're right not to release it until it's stable. Some people have reported that the current app causes (the VM) tivo to crash when using gestures - although they work fine for me.
Think I might keep using the US app even after VM release their version. The colour scheme is so much nicer than VM's angry red.
Edited - to add my thanks to sn00ps and everyone else that has helped with this!

The workaround is fantastic and congrats to everyone who designed the workaround, it allows us to use the App with TIVO until VM get their finger out

Do you mean a guide to getting the workaround working? The app is iPhone/iPad. If you do, first you need to install the app and that will require you to set up a US iTunes account. That's the easy bit and is dealt with earlier in this thread.
Once you've got that done, my post 312 explains how I got it installed on my NAS. Assuming you can log in to a bash prompt on yours, it should be a similar process. Once you've figured out how to run the script, look at post 312 about how to keep it running when you log out of the NAS.
Good luck!

Re: Virgin Media TiVo iPad app
Quick thanks to everyone who's helped get this going. I've use the latest Python scripts and installed them on my ReadyNAS. It's running python 2.6 - but it appears to work. Currently just put them in /usr/local/etc/Tivo and run them with 'nohup python tivo-forgery-py.py &' (note this is slightly different from the previously quoted for the readyNas)
I need to create an init.d script - but just having fun with remote control from my iPad at the moment and script writing will wait

I have to agree. when I first read Risco's comment the tone seemed rather ungrateful.
