The hard drive runs all the time at the moment. But as others have said, TiVos do tend to be very quiet.

I'm currently have a torch balanced on top of the TiVo shining through a blue Quality Street wrapper left over from Christmas, and my cat sat next to it under orders to purr constantly. If I squint its almost like it was 2010.
