i know that virgin are rolling out Tivo box soon.
but i didnt know if you wanted to buy a none virgin Tivo box it look like you wont be able to in the UK.

No problem. I suspect Tivo wouldn't have wanted to partner with Sky again. Sky handled the marketing for the UK operation when it was here before. Not suprisingly, the marketing was (at best) ineffective and Sky came up with a product remarkably similar to Tivo shortly before Tivo stopped selling in this country.

If I remember correctly I believe there was talk of Virgin Media shops possibly selling a freeview style version of the Tivo box along side the one for its cable tv operation eventually. I think this was regarded as a possibility around the time the Tivo partnership story broke, if this idea is still going ahead I have no idea and have seen nothing further about it

Probably not, They are ancient Tivo's. Virgin aint exactly gonna loose any sleep or money over them

but won't that leave to door open for hackers to change the firmware on the old boxes to run vigins software
i know i will be told it can't be done
but there is no such word as can't

Considering the old TiVo boxes don't have a cable tuner in them, there wouldn't be much point in even trying

As they would need the box to be paired with a card then the answer would be no as we have already replaced all the existing cards which have never been hacked.

Either way the old boxes are sold and not rented so VM will have no control over them.. If someone wants to buy them and refurb them there's no laws that say they can't
