Sky Movies HD volume
Hey Guys,
Has anyone noticed that the volume goes up and down on the sky Movies HD channels, its doesn't seem to happen on any other channels, HD or not, but it winds me up when trying to watch a movie in HD. I tried changing the HDMI cable just to be sure it wasn't that, and its the same.

Re: Sky Movies HD volume
I haven't noticed that however I do find there are split second gaps in the audio since I bought a Dolby Digital 5.1 amp. I guess this is an issue with errors in the transmission. The gaps in the audio a completely random and some times do not occur at all.

Re: Sky Movies HD volume
yep, seems to happen to all of them, when i ewatch live or record and watch it later, recorded harry potter for the missus the other day and we stopped watching after 15 mins cos the volume was going up and down so much it was winding us up. if it was at a constant lower volume that would be fine, i could just turn the TV up, but fluctuates all the time.

Re: Sky Movies HD volume
Thanks... Anyone else getting the same issue?
I don't personally sub to Sky Movies myself, so will have to check it out in the office, when next in.
I've not seen any other customer reports on the system or had anything escalated, yet.

k, thanks, i'm in Farnborough, (GU14 0). I've got the samsung V+ box aswell. I've also got 50MB broadband, at first i thought they might be linked, ie when using broadband and watching movies was stressing the line etc, but its doing it without broadband being used.

@ Digitial Fanatic..
Did you have any luck finding out of this is a known problem, We were watching again over the weekend, and it appears to happen when there's a loud noise on the program, IE an explosion or loud soundtrack etc.

Have you checked the settings on your TV? It may have an "auto volume" control that's designed to duck the volume when it gets too loud. Both my current and previous Sony TVs had such a feature and it behaved just as you have described.

It sounds like you are not used to hearing in dolby digital 5.1, if you have a setup going through an amp thats exactly what will happen when you hear an explosion in the movie, the noise is being passed through the front and rear speakers and the sub giving you the impact of an explosion, yes the sound does fluctuate a bit but its really only explosions where its vastly noticable, harry Potter which you recorded is a good example of DD 5.1.

Re: Sky Movies HD volume
Sounds like you're describing dynamic range, whereas the OP seems to be describing limiting or compression.

Re: Sky Movies HD volume
Just on standard amp settings you will hear differences in sound volumes between talking and explosions

Re: Sky Movies HD volume
Hi Guys,
I'm not using any amp or surround sound system, this is sound coming straight out of my Toshiba TV's built in speakers.
