Wink The New Samsung V+HD STB vs. the Old SA STB.

Hi, who has had the old Scientific Atlanta V+HD Set-top-box to compare with the new Samsung STB & if so was picture/sound quality superior (when viewing in HD & upscaling SD content) or just the same, also can you tell me how the Samsung fairs in general?

Also is the new "type 9 Virgin Remote control any better than previous models?

Plus do you set your settings to 1080i or 720p - which do you reckon is the best for Virgin Cable?

Will we ever be able to view 1080P TV signals here in Blighty?

Here's a great video showcasing the Samsung V+HD STB & new remote in '10. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTkvbQrFehY

Thank You

I can't compare the 2 boxes but I can comment on the Samsung STB. I had a Samsung H3110 V+ box installed last Friday at 14:30 and it died on Saturday at 18:00.
I give the Samsung a big

Regards .....

I have one of each in my home and I must say I prefer the Samsung box. Faster responses with the remote control and a nicer crisper picture when using 1080i setting via HDMI. The menus are easier on the eyes and don't give you a head ache. The remote that came with the Samsung box has a more modern look and feel.

Also another big thing is that you can't hear the hard disk reading and writing on the Samsung.

Ive had both boxes and the Samsung is alot better. it still has its bugs, however, the relibilty factor is better on the Samsung along with faster menu/epg browsing.

Re: The New Samsung V+HD STB vs. the Old SA STB.

Iv'e just watched the video of the Samsung STB and new remote posted by R-C'94 and it showed the HBO channel being highlighted. Does anyone know if HBO is still available or has it been removed because I can't seem to find it any more?

BTW-the Samsung box gets my vote!

Re: The New Samsung V+HD STB vs. the Old SA STB.

HBO was removed sometime last week.

We had the SA box and while it was OK, it felt slow, chunky and was noisy as hell!

The Samsung box seems more responsive, smaller and i can't hear it!

For some reason we have all three V+ remotes. I prefer the chunky original one, it fits in the hand well, buttons are well set out and it's just nice to use! The other two all have buttons the same colour and all the same size and I often found myself pressing the wrong button. The new, new one I find lopsided, teh buttons are all towards the top but your hand has to hold it in the middle else it is not balanced in your hand.
