Watching on V+ - TV turns off spontaneously
We have had our V+ box for ages (was swapped to a black box a few months back, after reliability probs with the old one).
All is well and good ... except... from time to time, for no apparent reason, the tv drops to standby.
We can just turn it on again with the the remote, but it's really really irritating in a tense drama, screen goes black, we have to switch back on, then rewind to catch the bit we've missed.
Anyone got any ideas ??

That's your tv, nothing to do with the V+ box.
Try it with another source, such as DVD or XBOX

Re: Watching on V+ - TV turns off spontaneously
ok, so if it is the TV, why, and what can we do to stop it? The TV is a JVC LCD 32 inch, less than 2 years old. V+ box is connected by HDMI. Has never happened when watching a DVD, or playing Wii games (SCART, Component respectively).

Tv faulty, could be something to do with the tv displaying high definition, you could go back to scart with the v+ box

Re: Watching on V+ - TV turns off spontaneously
Try another HDMi source if you can too. there isn't anything on the V+ that I can think of, that would send a standby flag to a tv?

Try another HDMI lead or HDMI port and see if it still continues to happen if it does try the Scart connection and if that is fine give support a call and they can run diagnostics on the box..

Re: Watching on V+ - TV turns off spontaneously
My guess is either the power supply is failing or the capacitors on the circuit board are failing too.

presumably, NoKnowledge means on the TV set, but that doesn't explain why it never happens when sourcing from the other devices.
Will probably start by trying a different HDMI port.

Re: Watching on V+ - TV turns off spontaneously
Yes I did mean the TV but as clumsymum says it doesn't happen with anything else, I'm at a loss.

Why, isnt it obvious that the tv cant handle HD, no other device he has is HDMI

Re: Watching on V+ - TV turns off spontaneously
Any chance the TV could be overheating and turning itself off? More processing power required for HD image processing vs standard def inputs.
I think you'll really have to try another HDMI device like an xbox/ps3/bluray player or something.

Could be right. I've never come across a faulty HD interface and without the TV being infront of me its quite tricky to tell.

we don't have any of those things
It can't be the TV overheating
a) because my son (aged 10) has played on the Wii for several hours at a time, without the problem occuring
b) because we can turn the set back on again immediately and continue watching
By the way, this happens whether we are watching an HD channel, or not, if that makes any difference ?

Very strange fault I must say.... I wonder if the HDMI cable might be causing a problem?
Try changing that and see how you get on?
