recording programs

A year (or so) back I opted for the extend recording which meant that a recording is scheduled to commence 3 minutes before a program starts and end 10 minutes after it ends. I had chosen the option after the end of a couple of films was not recorded (I may well have learnt of the option on this forum - prob could search and find my answers lol).
The extended option has worked fine and safeguarded the end of several programs. A few weeks ago the ending of two films was missed and I checked and discovered that extended recording was no longer selected. I re-selected it, of course, as I do not like to miss the ending. Surely it's should not be necessary to re-select the option periodically? Has anyone else experienced this?

You'll probably find that there's been a firmware update and as such some of them may reset preferences..
