Noisy new V+ HD Box
'Evening all....
Just installed new (Samsung black) V+ HD box yesterday. Unlike its silent predecessor boxes it makes a whirring noise - even when on standby. Is it a fan ? Is a Hard Disc Drive ? Is there any way I can eliminate the noise as we have the box in a bedroom ? Last question : If I switch off the power at night will everything easily including broadband reboot next day ? or am I SAFER keeping the box on 24/7 ? All advice most gratefully received !!!! DEEZEE

Re: Noisy new V+ HD Box
Mine does the same. Only had it just over a week. Sounds like the hard drive. Even when you turn it off it still does it. Thought it was normal, but now not too sure.

Re: Noisy new V+ HD Box
You can turn it off at night it only takes a few minutes to reboot, but don't turn it off if you are making a recoding. You will all so save money on power as a added bonus.

Re: Noisy new V+ HD Box
Ring today after 0800 but be aware all V+ boxes always power up at around 17 minutes past the hour as that is part of the design, you could try putting blutack under the feet to see if that lessens the noise.

deezee
just for info.
My Samsung V+ HD goes silent after about 5 mins of being put into standby
During the night in standby it will start to makes noises again (fans whirling). I presume this is for updates etc, normally about 430AM, this could last for upto 20 minutes. I have got used to it now

That's really helpful, Andrew -- Let's hope that the guests using that bedroom are heavy sleepers !"
