"We considered that the claim [about HD channels] would be interpreted by most readers as a statement that Virgin customers on a basic package would receive the same number of HD channels as Sky basic package customers," said the ASA. "Because this was not the case, we concluded that the ad was likely to mislead."

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. III
Spoke to a gentleman by the name of Peter Taylor in the CEO's office earlier today and the official line from him is 2 to 3 weeks for the Sky basics HD, It appears there is/was a contractual issue that is in the process of being ironed out. This would appear to fit with the beginning of Oct that has been mentioned.
I'm not giving this as gospel, just passing on the results of the conversation.
For those interested, I also mentioned Cinemagic HD and this is still an ongoing negotiation with nothing defined as yet.

Interesting that they're putting Challenge onto Freeview in Channel 1's slot.

And of course, lest we forget that as soon as it looked likely they'd get Living, Sky Real Lives closed too.
So basically this whole thing has resulted in everyone being down three channels! (Four if you count both Sky Real Lives..)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. III
Thank goodness the deal didn't restrict competition, otherwise how many other channels would've closed
TBH none of these channels were a big loss, with the possible exception of Bravo, but I presume their best programmes will move onto Sky 1.

Sky 1 come round a big circle !!!
Sky 1 looses Star Trek, VM buy it and air it on Bravo and Virgin 1, Sky 1 buy VM tv channels, Sky close Bravo and Virgin 1 and Sky 1 gets Star Trek back !!!
thats about the only program Sky will keep from Bravo !!!

ye true Sky will keep the best of what they value as worth keeping, but i doubt much will make it over to Sky 1. what Sky may do is sort out the living portfolio and move the best shows from Channel 1 and Bravo to Sky one and the rest that have carrage deals will fit on to Living`s abunduntly empty channels that show repeats.
it makes sense to trim the fat so to speak but i would place money on Star Trek going back to Sky 1.

That's a matter of opinion, but for me it's a huge loss especially for some people on Freeview.

Rubbish. OK, there may not be a plenitude of blockbusting shows on those channels but there's a always something to pick at and something to look forward to such as Spartacus B&S, Chuck etc, Star Trek... etc
It's not about closing channels that are 'no big loss' it's about the choice being narrowed for people whether on VM or Freeview. Sky have more or less ventured into this as an asset stripping exercise and no matter what you or others think, Freeview at least, will be a shade poorer when Channel 1 vanishes. content wise, I considered it superior to Sky3
There's a dearth of general entertainment channels on Freeview besides the big 5 and that's now one more down. Skys motive is to simply bury Freeview if at all possible and always has been. The lessoning of choice for those not willing to venture down Pay TV is becoming more and more scarce with Sky hoping that those who aren't yet tempted will consider moving once Freeview is full of shopping and quiz channels.
I still think that the sale of VM channels to Sky was a very, very bad idea.
