V+ HD Box Won't reset / start properly

I've had my black V+ HD box for 2 days now, it has been working fine. UNTIL one evening I came home and tried to change the channel as the TV was loading up and saw that the box was jammed on. No buttons would work.

So I uplugged the box and plugged it back in. The blue light and standby light flashed and then the box was completely dead. This keeps happening. I've looked in the manual and to reset the box you have to hold the standby button. When I do this the box comes up with a message saying 'STOP', which I do and it should start to reset, however it doesn't and continues to say STOP with no response.

If any has any ideas / solutions they would be much appreciated.

Dead box... call VM and they will replace. Is it a Samsung V+?

Yup it's the Samsung V+ HD box, looks like this: (has no reset button)

Do you know whether this is a common fault or is it just a dead box from the start? Or is it something that I have done?

It's nothing you have done. We are currently investigating why this is happening with this V+ model after a loss of power.

Give VM a call and they will replace the box... hopefully we can get to the bottom of why it's happening very soon.

Re: V+ HD Box Won't reset / start properly

Ok they are coming round with an engineer to fix it.

Will the same thing happen with the new one?

Re: V+ HD Box Won't reset / start properly

Ok thanks for your help. So basically this problem could still happen as it will be the same box. Brilliant!

I hopefully will get compensation for the time that I have no TV.

Hi

As Digital Fanatic stated, it is a known problem. From what we've been told, it was a faulty batch - can't remember the exact one, but in the Engineering screens the NagraID starts with a few zeros so should be easily identifiable for the tech when he visits

Re: V+ HD Box Won't reset / start properly

This happened to my new Samsung V+ box this morning. Mine had only been used for 7 days and died. Luckily I got an engineer out today. Seems to be more widespread than my engineer either knew or was letting on.

I'm not going to be very happy if this happens again at the wrong time during the world cup.

Re: V+ HD Box Won't reset / start properly

Same thing happened to me yesterday, 1 hour before England kicked off

The box froze, I unplugged it then restarted it and the lights flash on and then off. Holding standby down for 5 or so seconds displays SToP but nothing else happens. I can hear the hard disk whirring and clicking, even though the lights are not on.

I thought perhaps by switching off at the back and unplugging while the box was frozen may have corrupted or broke the hard disk?

Luckily I still had the old box (non-HD) so I could use that to watch the game. No engineer until Wednesday though.

Re: V+ HD Box Won't reset / start properly

My Samsung V+HD box has been suffering the same problem. I phoned VM and they said that they are treating this problem as a complete loss and will replace your box. I have found what seems to be a fix for the problem, although it's only a temporary fix.
Switch the box off at the wall, switch on again, press and hold the standby button on the front (left hand side) and the OK button (right hand side) for a few seconds. Release the OK button then when the display says stop, release the standby button and then press the OK button. This seemed to get mine going, although i does keep freezing, so I've got an engineer coming to replace it.

Re: V+ HD Box Won't reset / start properly

For the world cup I paid alot of money for a nice new TV plus surround sound to add to the atmosphere. Got VM installed for the highly promoted HD as part of the full XXL package.
The first goal was missed due to ITV switching to an advert and at the weekend the V+ box developed the same fault being discussed on here. A VM engineer will be calling on Thursday, after what may be Englands final game in the competition.
If I am understanding correctly VM have knowingly installed a faulty box into mty home and removed the planned enjoyment of the world cup for my family.
Also, since they somehow lost my old phone number and provided me with a new one,I am receiving calls from bailiffs and debt collection agencies.
Surely there is some sort of action can be taken against VM. Does anyone know????
