If the box is not yours and is not on the account then you will be charged for a callout as that will be a wasted technician, a charge of at least £30 will be added to your bill.

It will never work as it is not on your account so just give it to the tech for disposal.

If you want a second box you can have one installed, boxes from other accounts will not work as the serial number has to be listed on your account, which is something that cannot be done with that box as according to our systems is no longer exists after the previous owner closed their account.

Re: V+ HD Box Won't reset / start properly
Oh joy of joys!! My new Sammy V+ HD box has died on me too. 1 week till I get a replacement, not happy.
Anyway, if it's a help to anyone else out there, my Sammy was always bloody hot! I always thought something wasn't quite right with the heat that it generated (particularly on the middle underneath) that I even raised it high by a couple of inches in order to get a bit of airflow and circulation under it. It's not even in a tele unit or anything, but wide open in the room.
Suffice to say, if yours or anyone you know's Sammy's like that, consider getting it swapped out before it dies.

It would have to breakdown unless our online tools showed a fault as most peoples idea of hot differ from each other.

Re: V+ HD Box Won't reset / start properly
My Second V+ HD Box has just died, it has only been installed for about 36 hours! Just displays stop and nothing else, tried numerous resets and power downs etc.
This was supposed to be one of the new batch, seems Ive got a gremlin from the old batch more like it.
Totally peed off with this.

Re: V+ HD Box Won't reset / start properly
OK, credit where credit is due for Virgin Media, I got a new Sammy installed by Virgin within 36 hours of me reporting my original one had died on Wednesday night.
Here's the story,
On Wednesday night, the call centre (I think off shore) tech guy said the earliest he could get me in for a replacement was midday Monday, but I'm at work then so the next available early slot is the Tuesday (as explained in my previous post). Whole week with no tele. Not a happy Bomber Brown.
Woke up Thursday morning and filled in the Virgin online complaint form, being as constructive as possible. No TV for a week, these things happen, please send me a new box as early as possible etc. Later that day I had a call from a Virgin Customer Support Team (Peter G) up in Manchester I think, asking could I be in between 8am and midday the next day (yesterday) as he had managed to find me an engineer. WOOT!!
Really nice engineer (Rafiq) turned up at 9am. new Sammy up and running by 9.15am
Top marks to Virgin Media support! Thanks.

Re: V+ HD Box Won't reset / start properly
Woke up this morning feeling mine (well hungover but OK) to find out my V+ HD box is on the blink (SAMSUNG). After turning the box on --- nothing! The screen was blank so, at first, I thought maybe the plug's fuse had gone - alas no....I can feel the fan working in the box when I pick it up.
I tried a standby button reset and got the dreaded "StoP" message. That brought me here.
I wish I'd stayed with my old Virgin box.
Blaaaaa I don't want to wait in for an engineer. Can I just take it all to pieces and try and fix it myself
Falco
PS - I think this problem would not have occurred if I had always left my V+ box on. I tend to switch the whole thing off and on about 2 or 3 times/day dependant on when I need it. Given the box is a glorified computer I think I should have just left it on all the time. My Windows computer certainly appreciates the stability ... Maybe my Samsung box does too????? Damn those environmentalists getting me worried about CO2.
