Not necessarily. The market is a bit more competitive these days. For comparison, Sky are completely conning and ripping customers off with their "new" 1TB box. They're giving away the current HD box free, the only difference between the two boxes is about £20 for a larger HDD.
If Virgin do bring out a new TiVo box with a larger HDD and new EPG, the real costs will be in the EPG and functionality development with TiVo, which should be easily absorbed by a box cost of around £100. Hardly expensive when compared to Sky's new box or the original V+HD box. And as Virgin always remind us, it's lifetime warranty supported box which in itself is worth a pretty penny. As with the HD costs, it's a personal choice whether the cost of upgrading is worth it.
Again, sorry for digressing from the original thread, almost pulled it back at the end there!

It's a new device therefore you should and should expect to pay more. It's like any other new thing. You wouldn't go into a shop and say "Oh I bought a laptop 2 years ago but now there is a newer model can you replace mine for free" would you

With Virgin you are just renting the box so you should be able to send it back and rent another one. Trouble is they expect you to to buy it first, then rent it!

It's a one-off charge for the service/install, then when anything goes wrong it's swapped out free of charge for as long as you are a customer.
VM have to make money somewhere, they are already very competitive with the tv side, especially for XL.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. II
Well Im on the XL Tv Package with the HD box and Sky Sports, if they think they are going to charge a extra £7.00 its bye bye from me, already been offered a better deal from Sky including Sky Sports HD and £10.00 cheaper than what im paying, its always the people on the top packages who get shafted
