NGTV Discussion
I'm starting this thread for those who want to discuss NGTV.
This is mainly due to the Coming Soon to Virgin TV thread getting swamped with NGTV info.
So to save Media Boy's thread from NGTV overload, here is a thread for you all to talk.
Thanks
and big thanks to Media Boy for the continuation in news coming soon to Virgin TV.

Re: NGTV Discussion
I dunno, cause this one is just NGTV rather than to do with HD channels specifically... We'll see what a mod says

Re: NGTV Discussion
Okay doki
That's why I started it, I thought your thread was just a poll, but then again the answers seem to relate to what everyone was talking about in the Coming Soon thread lol.
Yup, up to the Mods

Re: NGTV Discussion
Any chance of somebody doing a full technical description on how this new NGTV works like what we have for VOD as I know there is quite a few technical minded people like myself who are interested in how all this works.

Re: NGTV Discussion
Simply put -
Virgin downlink the satellite signals, and pick off the channels they require. Each channel is then sent as a Single Program Transport Stream (SPTS) multicast IP stream onto the IP backbone for distribution. In the regions, the required SPTS streams are multiplexed into Multi Program Transport Streams, encryption and SI/PSI is added, and QAM modulation is used for distribution to the home onto the existing RF network.

Re: NGTV Discussion
Is there a schedule with this? .. by that I mean an 'area-by-area' list of what's happening when? .. approximately ..

Close. Encryption is done centrally and both MPTS and SPTS sent to the regions.

I did wonder about that, encryption was always done centrally on the three previous platforms. But I did a Cisco course recently that seemed to suggest the DCM's in the region added the encryption.
