2nd box install cost 3x original install price?
Just tried to get a quote for a 2nd V+ box for another room and after a long conversation with someone overseas (trying to get them to understand what I was after), was quoted £150 with a £5 a month charge. My original V+ install a few months ago only cost £50 and my neighbour had his installed last week for £99.
The £5 a month extra I could handle, even a £99 install fee would have been borderline acceptable, but trying to charge £150 has to have been a joke.
Is that really the price or was the guy trying to rip me off?

Currently, that really is the price as that is how much officially the V+ costs. Any reduction on £150 for the first V+ is a special offer

Thanks for the reply, looks like I'll be sticking to freeview for the other room then.

Re: 2nd box install cost 3x original install price?
I was taken aback when I was quoted £150 for installation, so I just went on for a wee bit about how I was told previously it was £75, then the girl took it down to £99 for me on this one occasion, I said I still think that's too much for an extra box, she put me on hold for a minute, then came back and gave me the whole 'since you're a long-time customer etc....i'm willing to - after speaking to my manager - give you it for £75 installation'. She also informed me that by moving to ebills I'd save £1.25/month, so looking at it that way the total cost for a 2nd V+ box over the course of a year is £10/month :-)
Hope this helps, stick to your guns, tell them you were told something else previously and it's really ridiculously easy for them to just lower the price!

Re: 2nd box install cost 3x original install price?
You just need to sweet talk them, i was renting a v+ box and was persueded to purchase it so i didn't get the monthly charge, they said it would be £75 which i could handle, i also told them i wanted a second v+ box at the same time, after some negotiating i managed to get both boxes for £90 which included the install, i was very happy to pay that, the thing with Virgin it seems is that everyone is getting charged different prices depending on what that negotiated at the time, my advise to everyone is just give them a call if you have been with them as long as i have and ask them what they can do to bring your costs down, they will be more than happy to help

Re: 2nd box install cost 3x original install price?
I was loooking for a 2nd box, just the time Sky sent me a 'half price for 12 months' leaflet (honest, they did - even offered to scan it in for Virgin if they didnt believe me)
Went through to rententions, and got an new V+ box for £30, no install fee, and an increase of £5 per month (going up to £5.50 from April). entered into a new 12 month contract, but no issues with that.
But would say (sorry about this, but its the truth) - dont bother with the Indian Call Centres - next to useless (didnt even know about new HD box). Good thing is that rententions is in the UK.

Re: 2nd box install cost 3x original install price?
Stupid question time...
If you already have VM points in your home, how can they justify charging £150 for installation?
I got my V+ installed for £75 a couple of years ago and I felt completely shafted as all the tech did was plug it in and made a 2 minute phone call to activate

The price for additional HD boxes is changing tomorrow.
From then you pay £35 for the installation and then £75 for the activation of each additional HD STB (and then any monthly multiroom/V+ service fees)

Ben, are they trialling V+ self install though? If so would that mean £75 + £15 instead of £75 + £35?

After reading 'roger skillin' above could someone tell me.
Is it still possible to rent a V+ box and how much?

I meant instead of payment the £150 for a second box, pay a month fee instead
