Can some one explain the HD options to me please?

Hey all,

Hoping you can help as I'm feeling a bit ripped off after speaking to a friend who seems to pay less but have a better deal.

I currently have virgin phone, XL TV and XL broadband and pay £53 a month for the privilege.

What I discovered today was that I already subscribe to HD through the XL package but since I have an old Samsung Pace TV box I do not get the benefits.

Upon phoning up virgin media I was told the following, "if you want HD programs then you need a V+ box which will be £75 installation and £4.00 a month extra"

I refused and ended the call.....If I pay for the XL package and part of that is HD programs then should virgin not supply the equipment which allows me to watch the programs I pay for?

Did you guys and gals get a free box? Am I missing something? and £4.00 a month is a very random amount!

HELP! I thought they would offer me a free upgrade box and that would be that

It's £75 for the V+ box if you have your existing box relocated for £5 a month otherwise it's £99 and no monthly fee. If you do not wish to have the PVR functionality, Virgin will be offering a HD V Box later this month (prices yet to be confirmed keep an eye on related threads) which may be better for you if you want to wait a bit for that.

So for £99 I could get the box and no extra month fees but would get HD and PVR functions?

Are the V+ boxes any good?

my V+ box cost me £50 + install, and some have paid alot more for it upto £150 so £75 is not bad, i'm not sure about the £4 extra per month maybe it is right i'm sure Benmcr will confirm this.

other way you might be able to get a cheaper one is if you are near the end of your contract you could phone retentions and ask them if they would supply one to keep your custom as sky are offering there sky+HD box for free

That is correct

The V+ boxes are really good, the HD is fantastic. The advantage it has over Sky+HD is that it has 3 tuners which means you can record two channels while watching a third. Plus you get all your usual on demand goodies with the plus point that you can also get HD programmes on demand

Thanks for the reply, Ive been with virgin for 3 years now so far outside the contract. What I was really hoping for was the box for free, not sure if that will happen but worth a try tomorrow I suppose.

Goto the thinking about leaving option and argue your case say your not happy and considering leaving etc and they might give you a free one.

A friend of mine did that yesterday and is getting one fitted for free on saturday.

We are on XL tv and dont pay the monthly charge, had to pay £75 for the box though.

Installed last Friday. Did try to get the box free, explained we had Sky etc, but they wouldnt budge. Managed to get 2 mates to sign up so should have £60 for that.

L BB, XL tv, M phone £44 ish a month. (1st 2 months free).

The extra £4 depends on the exact bundle the OP is on at the moment, plus the agent may have been trying to upgrade them to the Triple XL or a simliar bundle

Also it could be the £5 cost of the additional box (to get the £75 install) and a slight increase in the bundle discount making it a net change of £4

Without a bill breakdown couldn't say for certain

I doubt very much you'd get a free box... you may get it cheaper though. Customer relations would be the best to speak to on 150 - option - thinking of leaving us?

My first v+hd box was £50 and free install. The installer just came and swapped boxes. Second v+hd box was £75 with free install and £5p/m second box charge.

I had been with cable about 7 years when I paid £150 for my V+ and don't regret paying of penny for it, well worth it. Could be a bit faster though.

I had an engineer out Monday past to fix outside cable box, he offered me an upgrade to XL plus which I hadn't heard of before. I already had a SA V+ box and standard box and L tv and M phone. He replaced my standard box with a free Samsung V+ and upgraded my broadband to 50MB and phone to XL and I kept my original V+ all for £85 a month. No charge for the new Samsung V+ and only had to pay the £20 activation for my 50MB broadband.

After all this was done I spoke to a guy in retentions after my broadband had crashed and I got no help from faults and he got me an even better deal of £73.49 a month.

Could some one confirm that this offer is correct (Virgin V+ box for £49 for existing customer) and as im on the XL package now all I would pay is the £49.00?

What a total and utter rip off, ive just called up and this is the actual offer:

£49 set up + £35 installation fee + £5 a month to keep the old box

OR

£75 + £35 installation fee and they take the old box.

No mention of a £35 fee anywhere on the website at all! Which is wrong.

And also is a set up fee not the same as an installation fee....poor, very poor.

The link you provided is for customers who have broadband only and add a tv package to that.
