TV and Virgin remote conflict
Afternoon all,
So I'm having a problem with my standard set top box in my bedroom. All was fine for ages and then all of a sudden the set top box would start accepting on/off commands from my TV's remote. We turned them both off and it worked again, but then the next day it started again. it happens all the time now, but it seems to be getting worse, pressing the volume buttons on the TV remote can turn the virgin STB off, and the virgin remote can turn the TV on and off. If you take a barreries out the TV remote then it starts working again, but next day will be broke again.
I have a 21" LCD LG TV, it doesn't have any fancy eco setting on it or anything. It started in think in late january.
Has anyone else seen this, if so any ideas what it is?
Mike

Weve had a few instances of the tv switching itself on when im sure it had previously been off.
I use a remote extender from another room and i was also putting it down to the remote but cant prove it one way or the other.

Re: TV and Virgin remote conflict
Batterys in the TV remote. I used to get this when I had the standard Samsung STB. Get them changed and all should be fine. Another tip would be to put the batterys in the wrong way round (reverse polarity) and press all the buttons on the remote to discharge any power and then replace with new batterys.

Re: TV and Virgin remote conflict
Try new batteries, but DO NOT reverse the batteries, you could kill the remote.
It is quite possible for remotes to mis-signal when the batteries are fading, more usually giving wrong commands to their own device.
A few devices, unfortunately not that common, do have a backup code set/channel option to resolve genuine remote conflicts.

Lol, just how do you think the remote would fail by reversing polarity?

Re: TV and Virgin remote conflict
I doubt reversing the polarity would damage the remote, folk put batteries in the wrong way round everyday.

Re: TV and Virgin remote conflict
A lot of things are protected against reverse polarity, or the batteries simply do not make contact due to the difference between the pip and flat ends, but I wouldn't fancy testing that deliberately.

Re: TV and Virgin remote conflict
We have a Samsung LCD TV, and for the first few seconds after turning it on, the volume control on the TV remote causes the Virgin box to change channels, but then it seems to settle down and doesn't happen again. Wierd, we just put it down to 'one of those things that technology does'.

I'd be suspicious, your tv and virgin box could be conspiring against you.
Next time you go for a cup of tea, just when you get to the door, turn around quickly...if you spot strange images on tv..panic
Alternatively, it could just be a commercial, but the buggers are quick.I've yet to catch them at it

Re: TV and Virgin remote conflict
It's a known fault that the silver samsung is sensitive to LCD backlights and strange things can happen. The only way of fixing it is to move the stb away or dim the backlight
