TiVO Premiere gives us a glimpse of what may be to come...

Oh my days. If VM manage to implement that without ruining it *and* give us On Demand as well, I'll be back in a heartbeat. What a lovely bit of kit.

What do you mean on demand aswell? we already have on demand on Virgin.
Does look like a nice bit of kit though

The US version doesn't support Tru2way, which is how 3rd party cable boxes are supposed to access On Demand. In reality, it doesn't exists for most consumers and is a complete mess.
None of this should be an issue for VM, so they should be able to include OD without any problems.

Indeed, Tivo have got a partnership with RCN in the states, who for their vod use seachange which is the same as VM. So it's going to be absolutely trivial for them to support VM.

Virgin Media's UK customers will be keen to see exactly what the next-gen features offered by TiVo are, with many of the concepts likely to feature in the new V+ boxes that will arrive later in 2010.

Sounds good. I wouldn't mind a remote with qwerty keyboard like that as well.

Either way I am really looking forward to this and would be nice to have a interface that is more like XBMC/Popcorn hour then something that looks like it was put together in the eary 90s.

Re: TiVO Premiere gives us a glimpse of what may be to come...
I think I've commented on this before, but I was selling Sky at the time of the TiVO launch and had all the training. The training was as good as any Sky training (ie pretty decent) - demos, useful salesmen's notes books, all the promo guff etc. But TiVO was £400 + subscription. Less than a year later (and memory seems to tell me it was something silly like 6 months) Sky+ came out. A ton cheaper, twin tuner and Dolby Digital as the icing on the cake. It was a no-brainer.
So yes, the articles pretty accurate.

Meanwhile in the UK, Virgin Media, who is working with TiVo has confirmed to Pocket-lint that it won't be taking the Premiere or Premiere XL box in the UK
|
Although based on the recent Samsung V+ and the V HD box I expect it's because Virgin want to get one built to their own design

Ahhh. Slightly disappointing but not entirely unsurprising.

For me that's a good thing, TiVo will be focusing it's efforts on 'Virgin's Box' in the UK.
