I read that line to be: Tivo software to be in Set-top boxes deployed by the cablenet this autumn.
It is ambiguous but that line clearly, to me at least, is saying boxes deployed.

Re: TiVO Premiere gives us a glimpse of what may be to come...
I know we are all getting excited about Tivo and what they showed of earlier in the week but lets hope that we do not end up with this http://hd.engadget.com/2010/03/03/ne...ivo-interface/
New Dirtect TV tie up will not be based on the new interface but the old one. Might just be so that in the US so they can still sell the new boxes. Would be nice if we got a choice of box I would certainly stump up for a feature laden one.

That so-called old interface is far more intuitive and user friendly than Sky+ or V+. TiVo said the DirecTV TiVo will not have the new HD UI, but will instead have the classic SD interface with some of the new features.
It's been reported that Virgin Media agreed to carry TiVo boxes after seeing prototypes of the TiVo Premier experience. Comments earlier today from Virgin Media's CEO about the new Virgin TiVo being Flash-based would certainly back this up.

I don't care about TiVo.... I just want a pleasant looking guide which doesn't cause my V+ to lock up or be slow!

Re: TiVO Premiere gives us a glimpse of what may be to come...
The most important bit in that article with regards to if it'll run on the current boxes are the words "Flash-based". As I've said, that is the thing that decides if the old boxes can run it or not. Flash lite is not supported by most STB chipsets, it definitely isn't by the current SD boxes, near certainly not by the SA V+. If it is by the samsung is up in the air, and I'm speculating that it will be by the V HD (else there's little point in launching it).

They would be retail costs, not at all indicative of the cost to VM.
VM could quite easily have a contract with an STB manufacturer that states they supply them with x amount of boxes for x amount of time which has the actual cost of the hardware spread out over many years. Berkett has also stated he expects the boxes to be rolled out within the capital guidance of 14-15% of revenue, which is around £500m, so there's really no need to think VM can't afford to do this.

Re: TiVO Premiere gives us a glimpse of what may be to come...
I was speculating on the cost not using any real figures, I assume that the £150 for a V+ is still a subsidised cost?

That's an install cost, you don't own your V+ box, Virgin Media do.

Re: TiVO Premiere gives us a glimpse of what may be to come...
I know that but let's face it, it doesn't cost £150 to send a guy round to unplug your current box and plug in V+. It is a way of VM to pass on some of the cost of the box to the consumer. They can't just give them away.

Yeah that's true because it would be more than simple to do a self install if you already have the services and just want a new box.

Re: TiVO Premiere gives us a glimpse of what may be to come...
There was a piece in today's Sunday Times about the new Tivo/Virgin box http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/...cle7050684.ece
The most interesting line is the one that says 'Virgin will produce its own set top boxes to match or exceed these capabilities.' (My italics) Something to look forward to?

I would guess that is just speculation on the reporters part.

I very much doubt that Virgin will release a box that exceeds tivo's capabilities. I mean Tivo is the biggest pvr giant and they spend millions and millions creating the best possible and revolutionary tv. I can't see a small UK cable company beating improving and adding more than what tivo already has done.
