Aye, they aren't taking the actual boxes (which I doubt anyone ever expected) they will be using the same underlying OS though, just highly customised for VM.

Although based on the recent Samsung V+ and the V HD box I expect it's because Virgin want to get one built to their own design

I'd hoped. I'd truly hoped that VM were finally going to leverage their unique position and give us a next generation TV experience, somewhere along the lines of, and even maybe surpassing, FiOS. I won't be an epic naysayer and write it of before it starts. Heck, if they implemented the original TiVO software with similar hardware to V+ it'd make SkyHD look rather poor. And if they enable multiroom...

Keep the faith! Tivo won't want to put their name to a substandard offering. Just because it'll be using different hardware it doesn't even mean that we can't get all the features that were on show, after all it's the OS that gives them, not the hardware.

Not sure what we are missing by not having TiVo hardware?

Most likely we will get the software, and the remote - both heavily customized.

Will the current boxes be able to support the Flash platform?

I guess the advantage for VM is that they can by an off the shelf device from Samsung/SA/Moto which they already use in other countries so will be cheaper to buy and can be customised easier, ie faster processor more RAM.

But please whatever happens please give us either the choice of drive size or offer a 1TB version.

Berkett gives more details of TiVo plans

Cable Congress 2010 – Brussels. Virgin Media CEO Neil Berkett has confirmed that TiVo software will be in set-top boxes deployed by the cablenet this autumn.

“We will be launching TiVo at the end of the year and we will have TiVo inside our set-top boxes across all of customers,” Berkett told the Cable Congress on Thursday afternoon. He has previously stated November as to when the first TiVo-enabled boxes will be made available to customers. “We believe TiVo will supply the best user experience, Flash-based, and creating a new gateway to the digital world, so no longer will we think about ‘I’m in a walled garden’ or ‘I’m not in a walled garden’. What you don’t want to do is confuse customers, if they can get it, they should be able to get it. Being able to search for a particular style of programme or being able to search for a particular actor and being presented with your options whether they are linear, video-on-demand or over-the-top will become irrelevant”.

Berkett said he believed Virgin had selected the best user interface, which in combination with the best network would become increasingly important.

Embracing the delivery of content from all media, Berkett said it would be possible for subscribers to watch their favourite show as part of the operator’s VOD service or at the touch of a button order the boxed set to be delivered to their door.

Earlier this week TiVo announced details of the Premiere cable set-top that is seen as the basis for the Virgin model.

I was just coming to post that, it is looking more like one town will get this at the end of the year and it will be a staggard launch (I am looking at worse case senario here). It also does sound like a new box for everyone, that is going to be expensive, £300 per DVR and £200 per non DVR cost to VM times that my 3.6 million customers? Please don't cut too many corners this time.

So the new V Box HD will be a short-term box until the new TiVo ones.
It will be a bit pointless wouldn't it if it doesn't support the new interface?

At a guess I would imagine that the V HD box is up to spec to run Tivo, if not it does seem a waste to start using that.

No mention of whether existing boxes can be flash upgraded only mentions software so it could be possible to update existing boxes
