New HD box (non PVR)

Later this month VM will be releasing a new HD standard stb. This box is aimed at customers who would like HD viewing but do not require the recording options offered by the V+.

Initially it will be released on a trial basis accross the country.

They will be using the Cisco 4585

Happy days!

Yeah, it is kinda surprising but i suppose with the massive amount of consumers that now have HD ready sets it makes sense.
If you can get a free standard STB from Sky or a free standard HD stb for VM then i think it may swing the balance in their favour.

People now want HD so the provider that has the most options will surely be at an advantage.
Its just a shame there are not that many HD channels on VM at the moment but i suspect that will change soon if this strategy gets pushed.

Re: New HD box (non PVR)

How about releasing a PVR box without any HD, for those customers who aren't interesting in all this HD nonsense?

Re: New HD box (non PVR)

Makes me wonder if this will lead to the phasing out of all the old non-HD boxes. It wouldn't surprise me, as its common knowledge in the TV industry that analogue AV connections are soon to be discontinued from all new equipment.

LOL @ nonsense.

Well strictly speaking that is what they did. The V+ (tv drive) at its release was just that with the capability of HD. There was precious little HD content.
VM have never charged for HD the way Sky do so in fact it is a free bonus.
If you don't want HD just dont plugg your HDMI cable in...

Re: New HD box (non PVR)

Any trial participants will have already been agreed. So the first time anyone here will be able to get one is when they are officially launched (or if they have already agreed to be part of the trial)

Phoning up Customer Services won't do anything apart from get you frustrated

I enjoy phoning customer services it's amusing to record their lies and stupidity and then play it back to them - but I am going off topic so I will say thanks for the information Ben

Indeed, i found the same info when i googled it.
All i can say is that that is the info given out....maybe its a new box.
Maybe it was the number given to it by SA before Cisco took them over....Who knows? SA do have a 4000 series range of boxes listed on their website...Thats where i would place my money.

Lookng again, they have a 45xx box here ...... http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/coll...20/7013210.pdf maybe its similar, the specs seem to fit.
