they havent posted on the virgin website since april with any updtes, surely it shouldnt take this long.

New areas get their cards each week and very soon that will include Birmingham.
I never received any messages on my tv telling me the card was on its way, but I knew anyway.

I mean if you look at it from virgins point of view you would be getting the cards out asap.
The only reason they wouldnt get them out fast was if there was a underlying problem, which i did mention before.
oh well roll on christmas ill report back then, im getting bored coming on every month.

We have to do a staged roll-out, just in case we have any problems... if cards were sent out in bulk for the whole of the UK, then we could be overwhelmed with Support calls to the contact centres.
It has to be a managed roll-out.
Cards will be with you soon enough

there hasnt been big issues in other areas its just a straight card swap, sky change their cards within one month, and there are no problems, there have been a handful of problems with the card changes, but your pulling the other one if you think it takes 12 months to get cards out to people.
managed roll out its a joke, they should be ashamed of themselves.

When Sky issue new cards the encryption, so I am told, remains the same, it's just the keys that change.
VM are changing the encryption (which in all likelyhood will require hardware changes at each headend), and are implementing other changes at the same time, which require hardware changes.
As such, it's not nearly as simple as you appear to think. Sky don't need to bother with area by area installs. I doubt they have any more than 1 head end that needed changes to hardware, so it's easy for them to do the whole country at once.

At least this post shows that you do not have clue about what Virginmedia are actually doing, Stuart gave a fairly accurate reason for the rollout schedule above.
We do it area by area in a controlled way to ensure all Vboxes are working with the encryption and if the are any issues they call in for a resolution.
We have specialised software running to ensure that it all works as it should and each agent can use this software to fix a customers issue with their card/sor if required order new cards or even book an engineer.
So please do not comment on something you do not have any knowledge about.

i think i know a lot more than you do, like i said a few months ago, if it was a simple card change it would have been done, i posted here months ago that the problems where hardware, and that is why birmingham will not have card changes soon.
And from what i have said in the past, i think and know i was right then and im right now.
Now all im waiting for is for you losers to say i thnk tipster was right, and we have been wrong.
You might aswell of said that Liverpool are going to win the premier league in the future................

I rather doubt you know very much at all and very soon the messages and cards will start to arrive in the Birmingham area after which will never hear from you again and we will of course be proven to the ones in the know.
It is more likely that you or your alleged high ranking friend are selling dodgy boxes and the longer you can prolong the myth of no cards for Birmingham the better.
As for Liverpool winning the Premier League, I am not a football fan but I do know that they have won the European Cup 5 times which no other English football club can boast of doing the same.

Sky can change the keys via an EMM. They have fundamentally changed the encryption system twice now requiring new cards.
Sky have two main hardware centres but there are also all the third parties who provide transponders as part of the Sky epg. The last update was tested for years before it was rolled out, and then the rollout took around 6 months.
Virgin are changing from three central headends, to a main and backup. They are going from a mish mash of hardware providers to a single provider. The new hardware is what is enabling them to use the new encryption.

Re: New Smart card areas channel changes
My new card came about a month ago, but I just thought I'd post here that I had the same card since I joined in 2002, and when I saw it it was a blast from the past... Telewest Broadband!
