I'm always suspicious of people who randomly call people 'mate' - except for Australians that is.

People will be waiting a very long time Nagra 3 is already out there for USA, Spain and Germany with a far bigger demand and it hasn't been broken yet

To quote Sirius... 'dream on'. Besides, by the time it's cracked, Virgin will have a shiny new IPTV service most probably... Hooray!

Why would the UK hackers, or whatever they call themselves, have more chance of getting around the new encryption before those people in other countries who have had more time and incentive can do so?
I am sorry faisalabadi but to me it seems, despite your claims otherwise, you must have a vested interest in perpetuating this fallacy when so many people on the forums that discuss this issue at depth have accepted the inevitability of N3 not being overridden in the foreseeable future.

No version of nagravision has EVER been broken in the UK. Why would that change now?
I find it funny how everyone is so certain it'll be broke.
Just to put it into perspective, every provider, regardless of what encryption they use, uses CSA (common scrambling algorithm) to scramble the video. That's what takes the codeword that's decrypted using the conditional access module and unscrambles the video.
CSA (which has remained secure since day 1) uses an 8 byte key (these are the things people always request).
n3 uses a 128 byte key.
Breaking CSA would mean that you could watch EVERY SINGLE providers TV for free, breaking n3 means you get to watch one providers TV for free.
CSA has been attacked constantly since it was developed, and has not been broken.
Why is something that is far stronger and far more secure going to fall in the hands of some guy in the UK who has never cracked an encryption algorithm before?
Oh, and that's without mentioning that the cards actually have multiple algorithms on them, and if one falls they can switch to another instantly.

from the tone in your posts it strikes you may be a tad bitter and twisted because the free life is coming to an end for you and others .
It makes me sick to death to hear and read about people whinging like drains because their freeloading lives are comming to an end .well its tough on them, they can just pay for things like everyone else, then perhaps VM could and sky could concentrate on giving us a better service instead of spending millions trying to block the thieves getting free service

Re: New Smart card areas channel changes
The ones who are most ****ed off are those who have FTA boxes in a lock up somewhere that they have imported and now find will be useless. To be honest there the ones who keep saying it will be hacked, The reason is they are trying to swindle as many as they can in to buying a FTA box before it all ends
There is no honour amongst thieves

Re: New Smart card areas channel changes
Surely this is a bad move on VM's part? Most of the people that have these so called boxes will be paying atleast the minimum subscription to keep the line going so that their box works.
Considering Sky is cheaper [if you are not on one of the Retention bundles], all these people will just move to Sky! So VM have spent all this money fixing it, and they will also lose money via lost custom too!
What VM did is morally right, but in terms of making money they are going to be worse off!
^^^ Just trying to look at it from a business point of view... what do others think?

yes but even the minimum service is on contract so these people will be paying for something they can't get ....which makes it all the sweeter

Yes, but judging by how long this has gone on for, I think most people will be out of the initial 12 month contract!
It would be interesting to see the number of people that leave VM at the end of March/whatever that final date is .
If only this somehow means there is more internet bandwith for everyone so that they get rid of the usage caps/make the caps higher.......... I guess that would be wishful thinking too lol

Sky isn't always cheaper though, VIP for instance is cheaper than the same service from Sky.
If Sky was cheaper than VM for everything and the only reason people are with VM is to pirate cable why would anyone be on VM?
