Re: New Smart card areas channel changes
Just seen this article .
The long awaited roll out of Nagra 3 by Virgin Media to encrypt their cable services has begun, with Leeds being the first area of the UK to be upgraded to the new system.
According to unconfirmed reports, it will be rolled out across the South of England over January, the Midlands by February, and the North West of England by March. By Easter, all of Virgin Media’s cable services should be running with Nagra 3 encryption.
This will make it virtually impossible for anyone to view premium cable channels broadcast by Virgin Media except by legitimate paid subscribers, resulting in a serious blow to existing cable pirates.
The news has long been expected, after Nagra 3 was rolled out in the Republic of Ireland earlier this year, and hardware upgrades to allow for it to be rolled out in the UK have been sent out through 2009.
While cable pirates will no doubt be disappointed that their favourite premium cable channels will no longer be available for free, Virgin are offering two months free upgrade on their TV services to new and existing customers.
If cable services are no longer wanted, then Sky has been providing special offers on Sky + and Sky HD for the Christmas season to bring in subscribers to premium channels.
Of course, there are also options to use Freeview, Freesat, or even use satellite equipment to explore the range of Free To Air (FTA) channels, which do not require subscription services.
In the meantime, when approached by Techwatch for comment, a Virgin Media spokesperson replied “We do not comment on security issues.”
So the dates tie in with when VM are saying that they hope to have 20-30 hd channels as well?

It isn't publicly hacked, privately hacked, or any other form of hacked.
As long as lessons have been learnt from n1 and n2 and the cards aren't glitchable there's not much to worry about. Even the well known acid + electron microscope to examine the chips layer by layer might be useless, as it's now trivial to make a chip where removing one layer will take out the layers beneath. I seriously doubt Kudelski are losing any sleep worrying about n3 being hacked.
Card sharing will never go public in the way that dodgy boxes are now.
It's trivial to find out who's card is being shared and to block it. You need private groups for card sharing, groups where you trust every person in it to not rat the group out, you'll never be able to buy a box set up for card sharing from a guy down the pub.
Sure the enthusiasts might have card sharing rings set up, but joe public is NEVER getting into them.

No I just noticed you had just joined and were posting ridiculous things so used quotes from Radio 1 to amuse myself. Obviously there is the Card Sharing thing but anyone that tries it will fail miserably I have to stay. So please will you take your doubting elsewhere. Thanks.

Re: New Smart card areas channel changes
Well I live in Leeds and received my new cards (1 x V+ and one Std V Box) a couple of weeks ago - was dead easy to set up and took only a couple of minutes each - not the 20 minutes as suggested - and all was as before no problems at all.
And yes, I too and quietly smug that the dodgy box folks may actually have to pay Virgin now to get servfices and that this increase in revenue may eventually lead to better services for the rest of us legitimate customers Tee Hee

Oh get stuffed, I have no time for imbeciles like you trying to down play the success of Virgin Media with this card swap, maybe there will be cheats but very very very very few compared to the amount there are now. So I do know what I'm talking about see and you should realise that it was Friday night and I was posting on an internet forum so yes maybe it was ridiculous, you weren't forced to respond to my posts.
