Re: New Smart card areas channel changes

What a shambles. I've started to lose channels today and I'm a legitimate customer. Haven't received the new smart card, but loads of letters about it. Have rung several times of the last couple of weeks to be told by 'overseas' call centre that a a replacements on its way (liars, it must have just been their script). Thankfully got through to someone in this country today who admitted a replacement hadn't been ordered, and its going to take 7 days to get a card (during which time I'll lose more channels). Nice one Virgin, experiment on another region next time and get rid of the useless overseas call centre if you want to retain your customers.

Re: New Smart card areas channel changes

Sorry to hear you are losing your service (luckily, in NW Leeds, we got ours).

If they can't get a tech out to you, I would ask for credit for loss of service.

Re: New Smart card areas channel changes

They did say they'd refund me when I enquired, but might have just been trying to get me off the phone. At the moment only seem to have lost the '+1' channels which I'm not too bothered about. Don't really want to take a day off work for a tech to turn up (or not to turn up...). Doubtless some Postie has nabbed the original for his dodgy box.... Whats annoyed me is that I've previously alerted them to the fact I haven't received a new card and they've done nothing about it, apart from cut my channels. They must know which customers that haven't put the new card in as I've had a targetted mailing telling me to switch the card over (just a shame they couldn't have sent the card aswell !)

Re: New Smart card areas channel changes

The reminder letters are automatic, and there is no way to delay the channels drops (for obvious reasons)

The agents that you spoke to when you said you hadn't got a card should have following what they are supposed to and ordered a replacement.

Yet again the Indian call centres cack it up, when is Virgin going to learn that they are loosing customers and therefore money by using them! Guess that is for another thread though

Sigh .
Your IP address puts you in Leeds. New secure encryption is being implemented in Leeds, and many of the channels have already gone black and more will go soon.

To put it simply you are stuffed.

There is no fix for it - the days of free tv are now history for you

You have 3 options if you want the pay channels back:

1) Pay VM oodles of money for the pay channels

2) Pay Sky UK oodles of money for the satellite channels

3) Do without

Your choice, but thats the ONLY set of choices for you now.

Re: New Smart card areas channel changes

There is an option 4.. css

To be honest this version of rom 180 was only introduced a short while ago and believe it or not the main big boys in the hacking scene (not the crying newbies from a public forum) are in the UK and up till now haven't had a reason/need to start interrogating N3.

When N1 was hacked it was a different era where the hobbyist was the only one really interested in glitching ect' and there weren't any foreign cardless boxes so the hacker had to attack the stb as well. It produced god like guru's who became renowned in the cable hacking circles

Now things have changed dramatically, cardless boxes that have closed non vm dependant firmware (produced and sold by the once god like gurus) have become the norm and these are big big business in the UK and it's the traders that pump the money into the hack as when it's cracked they stand to make a fortune having the only box on the market that works on N3. Most of the current boxes are capable of running N3 they just don't have the N3 emulation.

Will it get hacked? Yes definitely. How soon depends on who hacks it first! If it's one of the British hobbyists then it'll eventually sift down when all the traders have made their money. If it's one of the current crews that own the firmware of a particular box then it will be quick (they'll want to make a killing before it spreads to other boxes and open source). I can assure you the rom 180 has already been partly opened and that's what the earlier reference to N3 being partly cracked meant... It's no where near cracked but it's being worked on.. The old adage stands that something that can be made.. can be broken.

I'm not vindicating the hacking scene or condoning it, but I feel some of you are really underestimating the reality of this.

jmo

Regards.

Re: New Smart card areas channel changes

I have just been reading a white paper and this seems it could be what VIRGIN is trying to roll out with the new cards as it says that DISNEY are supportive of this and it could be to do with the 3 screens deal that they have signed with them !

here is the link and if the mods think that there is to much info on there please remove the link .

I expect the forum is going to get super-busy with people from Leeds either with problems with legit cards or even people who didn't realise they were using non-legit equipment. I dare say there will be quite a few asking about package prices too :p.
