Sharp Aquos LCD TV sound but no pic through V+ HDMI

When trying to connect my new V+ box to my Sharp Aquos LCD TV, I get sound but no picture through the HD channel. I have called Sharp and they are blaming Virgin Media's Samsung Boxes and cannot help me.

Does anyone else have a Sharp LCD TV and having this problem? If I call VM - I can imagine that they will just blame Sharp. I am setting it up correctly because you can get it working by going to the menu in the HD channel on the TV (EXT 7, where you hear the sound) and under the options sub menu, reset the "audio with no picture" option - you can now view in HD.
Sharp say it is a communication error with the V+ box.

The only way around it is to do the menu reset each time you turn on the V+ box. grrrrrrr.

I have the Aquos P50, so it's probably an older model than yours, and it works fine with my V+. The V+ is the older type too though... progress eh!

It's just a thought, but have you tried a different HDMI lead?

Have you any other HDMI products you can use use to confirm that the TV is ok with HDMI, also (and I know some people will say otherwise) it may be the HDMI cable its self as I have a sharp aquos that does not work with some branded HDMI leads. (go figure

)

Also what model aquos do you have?

Its an Aquos Lc-32D44E, I have my xbox 360 on there so the HD is ok on it. I did call VM and they are sending engineer out

Virgin Engineer came round and straight away knew about Sharp Aquos compatability problems. It's not the cable or the box, although Sharp say "VM HD boxes" are faulty - contact them. Where do I go from here? Do I go back the Comet and tell them that the TV is not suitable for the purpose I bought it for and then get another model? Or stick with a scart connection? VM or Sharp are not Budging, so Im kinda stuck.

Engineer came back today with a Samsung HDTV - Worked fine with my V+ box. This means the TV is faulty and as Virgin have had many Aquos TV's not working with V+ boxes, this suggests that Sharp are not willing to admit this problem.

Has anyone else out there got Problems with Virgin Media HD working with Their Aquos TV??

I'd contact Comet and advise what you've done... it isn't fit for use.. you have consumer rights here. It is Sharps problem, but it's not for you to get in to a battle with them over. Comet is obviously a major customer and they need to apply the pressure on Sharp.

ive had this issue a few times on Sharp tv`s and its one of 2 things.

1. HDMI cable issue

2. Firmware issue with the tv.

Sharp tv`s are very sensitive to faulty HDMI cables and can pick up a fault on the cable that other tvs usually dont. so first thing to do is change the HDMI cable. the HDMI cables that VM supply are really cheap anyway and usually dont work long on the Sharp tv`s ive had.

if you have shanged the cable then they may well be an issue with the tv`s firmware. the reason you get sound and no picture is down to a HDCP handshake failure between the tv and the box. ring sharp and ask for the latest firmware to be installed on your tv they will either send and engineer round to do it or send you a USB flash drive with instructions on how to do it.

Well I have tried 4 different Leads now so next step is to call Sharp on Monday, If I dont get a result there, I shall pay Comet a visit...

Am I legally allowed to approach Comet, considering the TV is almost 1 year old?

yea its its under 1 year old (even by 1 day) then you are legally allowed to approach Comet. i personally dont think you will get very far as the last item i bought from Comet was an Xbox 360 which went faulty within 6 months (faulty DVD Rom) and they told me to get in touch with MS so they may refer you to Sharp.
the reason being is that they are not allowed to reapir brand name products themselves and the big manufacturers insist that all these big retailers use the manufacturer as the warranty repair center.

there is also the EU 2 year warranty loophole that Stores keep trying to worm out of but they cant as we are a EU country.

Would you notice the difference between HDMI and a scart connection? Is it that big a difference??

It's a HUGE difference, SD channels are upscaled with HDMI and you need HDMI to watch HD.

Well the Comet guy was here last Friday, played about a bit (with the TV) and then advised me that he will get a new mainboard ordered for it (as this might contain updated software). He said that he would hope he could get it for next Saturday.
He had said that he was not aware off a Sharp Aquos issue, the TV could be faulty or just need updated firmware.

We shall see..
Im still waiting to see what the big deal is with HD...
